Hello Tacoma world, I tried doing research but still a little unsure… I’m looking to run 33” on my ‘05 tacoma that has a OME 3” lift with freedom upc. I am looking at a set of wheels and tires that have 4.75bs and 0 offset (Method 305s w/KO2). My question is has anyone used this combo? Or if anyone knows if these wheels will even work? I would hate to buy these and have them not work. And no I’m not brave enough to run wheel spacers

    Thanks

33" is height. What is rim width, tire size? Most offset and backspacing is determined by measurements from rim wheel width.

JD Fab front stock width setup with Method 701's 17x8.5 0 offset with 285/75/17 KO2's no problem's and because of the JD Fab lower control arm mounts and the .25 ball joint set back upper control arm cab mount is stock and no pinch weld smashing but did have to trim the opening of the bumper cover.

Op, minus you giving the rim width itself and according to your stated backspacing (4.75") along with (0mm) offset the rim width is (9.5"). Based off this info. your rim would be (12mm) wider on both the inner and outer rim edges than dhrracers combo.

Based off of dhrracer's (8.5") wide rims @ (0mm) specs, you'll need (12mm or 1/2") additional clearance on both inner and outer sides than HIS set up. (maybe you have it, maybe not?)

The best way to get a close idea is to take what spec (rim) you are PRESENTLY running and measure your clearances. Knowing these things (rim width & offset) can give you the best idea this side of actually mounting them.

You are not calculating the rim width, back spacing and offset correctly. Or perhaps Method is but this is from Methods web site. 701 | Matte Black – MR70178560500 – Method Race Wheels When Method states spacing they do not specify that it is back spacing. I just look at offset and width.

The same shit everyone else has.
Offset is useless without knowing the width of the wheel

8” et0 is a pretty good sweet spot to avoid a lot of trimming/modifying.

Backspacing seems to be used more on rwd for some reason.

Back spacing is a measurement from the hub face to back of rim. A 0mm offset (centered) on an 8" rim would be 4" back spacing. 0mm being the center of the rim

My son has some TRD 17" rims that are 0mm offset also. Toyota 4x4's must fit best that way? My XRunner has O.E. 18X8 with 30mm offset.

Rim width, offset and backspacing kind of work together like volts, ohms and watts. Putting two together will give the 3rd dimension.

I understand that. That is why I mentioned Method states spacing vs back spacing which makes their info a bit confusing. Now when you compare their 17x8.5 0 offset/4.75 spacing to the 17x9 -12 offset/4.62 spacing adds to that confusion. If you compare the two would the outer bead of 17x9 be 1" to the outside of the 17x8.5 and the inner bead be 1/2" towards the outside, then that of the 17x8.5? I agree that Methods spacing numbers do not add up but that is what is on their website.

    I believe I have method 17x8.5
    Et0 4.75 BS

I was told I made a mistake. Maybe. And that I should’ve gotten 17x9 with a different offset that sticks out farther with different offset.

instead for cheaper I put SpiderTrax spacers to try and stop rubbing my frame. Which caused me to stop rubbing my frame which is strong and paintable, and start rubbing other shit I did not previously rub. That may not be as negligible to deal with.

I can’t help but wonder why the equivalent to bead grip Icon rebound pro seems to only come in 17x8.5 4.75”BS, and not a second available 17x9 version like method does.

oh well. Too late. Already got 701 bead grips and spacers. Would be cost prohibitive to change that.

Got it, so I reached out to the seller and he said that they’re 9.5 wide. Which if I understand correctly backspacing refers to the center to the end of the wheel which at 0mm offset just cuts that 9.5 in half which is 4.75…. I haven’t installed my lift yet so I don’t know how much clearance I have. I was wanting to have the new tires and wheels, so I can get it aligned with everything on it. Has anyone ran this rim width ? Does it work ?

    Thanks again buddy

    These numbers match up.

Simply put 0mm offset is middle of total width.
backspacing @ 0mm offset is half of width

A 9.5" rim with 0mm offset has half its width
    4.75" bs (4.75" + 4.75" = 9.5" rim)

A 8.0" rim with 0mm offset has half its width
    4.00" bs (4.00" + 4.00" = 8.0" rim

Sounds like TacoTuesday1 says 4.75"bs rubs frame. IF thats the case then a 4.5"bs may be max allowed.

Using both TacoTuesday1's and dhrracers as a working example, a 4.5"bs on a 9" rim (0mm offset) would have no additional "poke". A 9.5" rim (6mm offset or shim) would have 12mm of added "poke". While both the 9" and 9.5" held a proven workable backspacing of 4.5"

Wow that was a work out.

It dawned on me perhaps some of the confusion with Methods numbers (17x8.5/0 offset/4.75 spacing)(17x9.0/-12/4.62 spacing) is that wheel width is actually bead to bead seat not the overall width of the wheel and the spacing is wheel mounting surface to the outside of the back of the wheel. Method Bead grip wheel lips are quite thick. I may go check my spare (17x8.5) to see if that checks out.

Was conversing with JBA represenative and he advised 4.5bs (minimum) or up to 5.0 for their upper control arms. Have 4.5bs with my 33's and they clear just fine. Was considering getting the Methods with 4.75 if I needed another 1/4inch clearance.

285/75/17 are 34s not 33s. You're gonna need as much caster as possible, CMC and pinch weld plus a whole shit load of plastic trimming. No more mud flaps either

CMC and pinch weld smashing not needed and only a minimum plastic trimming with my 285/75/17's on a 17x8.5" 0 offset wheel.

I find that very hard to believe, but no 2 trucks are identical and anything is possible I suppose. My 34s rubbed everything and took quite a bit of chopping to clear

This was the key to it. Tacoma 05-23 Lower Arm Pivots – JD Fabrication along with Tacoma 05-15 Upper Arm – JD Fabrication There are some companies producing LCA with the ball joint forward of stock, which is another way. Another key is to avoid negative offset wheels and wheel spacers and stick with tires that are not wider than 11.5" wide. When you get to 315 or 12.5" the tire may come in contact with the UCA then people go to spacers or the negative offset wheels. That increases scrub radius/tire swing and will put the tire farther back and farther forward when turned decreasing clearance with the CM and firewall. Or you have to push the lower ball joint even farther forward but if you have the up travel then you get into additional problems.

Nice bit of kit but can you say “overkill”? That’s also $2k in parts not including labor (which will be SUBSTANTIAL & I’m gonna go out on a limb and say OP won’t DIY), while most 33ish tires can be made to fit with minimal & dirt cheap or free mods like a cab mount chop, little bit of plastic trimming, & massaging the pinch weld a little.

For intermediate wheeling or future upgrades, the JD kit is nice tho. But probably not worth it for someone who has to pay labor because it still leaves you with basically the same shitty front frame while being way overkill just to fit tires just for looks
