If you haven’t tried this dark ride yet, it is phenomenal. I’m at a tasting right now and was completely shocked at its profile and definitely it’s finished.IMG_8417.jpg

Which did you choose? I was surprised that I preferred the Old Elk in a blind.

I’ve been taking my time. I definitely have a preference but i haven’t finished and turned over the glass yet. Tbf the Old Elk has been open for a while and I popped the Weller today…. I’ll post my thoughts.

So I picked the Old Elk for smell and Taste. Smell by a long shot…. And the Weller just tasted flat in comparison…. Obviously Weller is a killer pour but the OE double wheat is stellar

I've tried a couple of rye whiskeys before and enjoyed them. Might have to add this to the list.

Men down. These were all exceptional pours. The Stagg was a store pick from the UK market, best Stagg I’ve ever had. Only tried a couple ER picks but this one was just fantastic.

It’s great, it has a fantastic mouth feel. It has a rich, deep flavor the same way a double oaked has in a way. I’m going to let it open up a bit and revisit it. Cheers.

I'm going just west of Cleveland Ohio hunting with some buddies, be leaving 11/1 or 11/2 from Maine going rt90 for 3/4 of the way. Is there best places to purchase good bourbon either west of Buffalo NY, Erie PA, Ashtabula or Cleveland Oh areas? Am I better off looking in our State run liquor stores in Maine? Appreciate any help.

There are some huge spirits stores in Buffalo with large selections of goodies but all at secondary or near secondary types of prices (Premier for example). You may be able to find some good store picks in the Buffalo area though. Call around and ask in advance so you know where to go.

Ohio has state controlled distribution so I recommend going on the OHLQ website to see what info you can find about drops, Weller is generally easier to get in OH than other places but you need to know the drop day and locations and get in line an hour or two before opening. If you’re just randomly driving through you’re unlikely to come across allocated bottles but hey you never know. Your better odds are places with less population density. All the locations authorized to sell spirits are on the website.

Cleveland has a non distiller producer called River Roots that you should consider visiting, I’m constantly hearing about what banger bottles they’re putting out with stuff sourced from Beam, MGP, and Heaven Hill. Also if you can, stop at the West Side Market in Cleveland, incredible place. Have a lot of good memories there from my childhood, used to go with my dad and buy fresh produce, cheeses, meats, honey, preserves, all sorts of stuff. They have a kick ass falafel stand.

Thank you for the thorough response, I'll do some research on Buffalo liquor stores. I'd miss the opening of stores in Ohio as I expect to be there 3pm ish. Appreciate your help.
