When looking up “rear windshield shattering” came across a few videos saying this is possible. I planned to locate the vents and take a look at them this week but don’t know how they would have gotten clogged up in such a short time. I also had my soft topper on the back which would protect the window from any coincidental impacts (no holes in it from a random meteorites that just happened to strike at the same time! lol).

I agree it wasn’t on my priority list when I bought the 2024. I remember it coming as standard on the OR package in 2018 but on this years model they took a lot of the standard OR features, bed outlet/boxes, rear sliding window and wireless charging and made them part of an expensive “upgrade” package along with the power seats that I didn’t think was worth the price on top of the cost of the new truck. But since I’m going to be spending some money here to replace the rear window anyway I thought it worth checking out if it could be done for a few hundred bucks more. I didn’t use it much for myself aside from passing long items like fishing rods through the window but my dog enjoyed sticking his nose out the rear window on the highway and the truck is as much his as mine, hence my investigation here.

It sounds like it’s possible to put this switch in an alternate location but I’m still looking to see if I can purchase the switch and new faceplate for the overhead console which would be the cleanest option. From what I can tell though Toyota only sells the overhead console as a unit though.

Unless you get a used cheap one.

Another option to add the switch is tapping the wires at the overhead console (W15) and running them to where you've chosen to install the switch. Purchasing the MESO map light add harness would make an easy location to tap them without going into the vehicle harness.

    Or this:

Posi-tap the wires to the window control switch.

Damn you going further than me. I would have been okay with a manual slider… Which I’ve been thinking about doing.

Only because I gotta carry 10’ tile edge schluter trim or baseboard some shit like that and don’t wanna rack mount it.

Id be ok with a manual slider especially for the time being, anyone with a 4th gen know if the window can be opened manually? I’m sure if I got the sliding glass I could figure something out but would try to keep the option open to put power to it down the line if I didn’t do it now

Just looked, no relays for the rear window.

yea the whole console is expensive. Looks like the majority including the circuit board may be the same on all of them but the faceplate that holds the switch in place is different and doesn’t appear to be available. I’m sure I could get one made up with all the 3D printing shops now but I’d have to come up with a model or part to copy. The switch also looks different than the 3rd gen’s that I see available, to fit in the overhead console “tray” under the faceplate and contact the circuit board solder points which I am guessing is how it works as I don’t see any wires in the overhead console disassembly videos I’ve seen where the switch is there.

not a waste, just an intermediate step. If the the parts weren’t available now I’d put the sliding window in and then wait to find a scrapyard overhead console and relays.

The spot where the relays are missing, do they have the terminals?

They do have terminals. And it looks like the 30A fuze is there as well.

That would leave the switch and switch holder (3D print) and wire taps after window install.

Are relays generic? I’m not having any luck searching for “rear window relay” or anything similar. Do the colors signify anything? I may have better luck searching for a PN, tomorrow I could pull one of the brown ones

    I w
as actually just looking at these yesterday when I disassembled the overhead console. Do you have them? The stock lights are pretty pitiful and after the disassembly I see why, it’s just a couple of small LEDs on the circuit board with clear plastic to transfer the light up like a fiber optic.

Very bright substitutes...and red or white choice in same assembly.
