I just purchased a 2010 Tacoma. The driver's side window works but, stops half way open. It won't go down any further. The switch is working fine, but, the window does not complete its journey. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your help in advance, Thomas

Pull the door panel off and check the window track, sometimes the door check breaks or get's wonky and bends the window track.

    Dear DM 93

You were absolutely correct. Since it wasn't in my possession I don't know how it happened but, the door check appears to have slammed into the track and bent it. A quick unbending and the window works perfectly again - it was a relief - I took the chance to clean behind the door and although I cut holes in the plastic, I taped them up again so it's all protected again. Thanks again for your help!!!!

Tread lightly troubleshooting this one: A fully closed window is better than a partially opened one with fall and winter weather approaching.

You're correct, but luckily for me it was a simple fix and the window works perfectly : ☺️ Thanks Thomas

    Dear All,
OK, so now the problem has returned. (The window does not open fully) Without any trauma, the driver's door suddenly started to hesitate when it closed. It would close, bounce back a little and then it would close (from a position closer to the frame ) and close without incident. I looked at the door check and it seemed fine but, somehow the window track bent again.

Since this is the second time I have a problem, do I assume this is because the door check got wonky,
and bent the window regulator track again? Does it mean that I should replace the door check as well.

    I guess here's the question.
DO I 1. take the inner door off and bend the window regulator frame back into place, or

    2. Replace the entire window regulator? I have found one on AM-AUTOPARTS.COM for 31.99 , or

    3. Replace the window regulator and door check.

And, I just found a door check on the same site and the reason I'm posting it is: Ebay has them for 61.99 quite a price difference.the parts at AM-AUTO to be trusted?

I truly appreciate your patience and guidance. Thomas

If the door check is not damaged and the nuts were just loose but tightened back like normal, I would remove the door check nuts off and apply threadlock then tighten the nuts back down. For the window regulator I recommend you replace it. Its hard to say without pictures but it sounds like the door check bent the regulator and after you bent it back that was a weak spot which is prone to failure.

Thank you so much. I will order a new window regulator, do you think the AM-Auto part is useable? I don't know much about after market quality, I'd rather not have to do this again. The door check, I will take out and inspect, I don't believe it was loose but I will confirm. Thanks again Joeyv141!

I changed the regulator in mine- it's an easy job. The regulator itself isn't very expensive, but the motor is.

Since the OEM door check is marginal to being with, and a known issue that takes other parts with it when it acts up, I would go with the OEM part. If the regulator is tweaked: same. I would not want to do this again either, especially with winter coming. Dunno if you get winter; we do and it's ice, frozen rain, slush and refrozen everything all putting extra pressure on the components that have already been subjected to added stress.

    YMMV :proposetoast:

    Williston,
Thanks so much for your reply!
I appreciate the advice and will follow it. If it's listed as OEM is it actually authentic? Can you suggest a reputable supplier? Thanks again, Thomas
PS I live in Vermont surrounded by huge swaths of forest in a small cabin on dirt roads. When I moved in, the 1 room cabin had no insulation and a bad wood stove. In the mornings the white film on the floor turned out to be ice, so yeah I know winter, snow, ice, mud, mud , mud and high winds. Lucky for me I love the cold :)!.

You get worse winters out there than we do in another part of New England. OEM parts generally come from a dealer. I have had good luck ordering from a local dealership through the Toyota parts website. The (dealership) I use has a "free pick-up at parts counter" option. There is a main Toyota parts distribution center near me, so if I order something before noon, it's usually here the next day. Sometimes the site has free-shipping or 10% off discounts.
