In the app I'm using there is 2 transmission temp options. Top on stays decently consistent. Moves slightly under load ect. The bottom middle one raises to 220-230 under load hills and drops right back down under 200 really quick. Guessing one is converter and the other is another spot in the transmission?

The top one that stays relatively constant is the trans pan temp. The middle one changing up and down more quickly is the converter temp.

Perfect. That's about what I thought. Any idea what a safe level for the converter to get to? It's gets to 230 area towing my trailer up hills

I wouldn’t like to see mine at 230 for any length of time. I’ve seen it at 210, at times when towing, but I don’t pull any significant hills in Manitoba. As a quick fix, I found that pinning the trans tstat open while towing allows the overall temps to be lower by about 10*f.

Obd fusion. You have to buy the Toyota add on for like $15 but it works great. And can turn off the seat belt chime in there too

Curious as to what your trailer, terrain and outdoor temps were like to get to 230*. We never made it past the high teens (~218*) with a 3k lb trailer and loaded truck on I70 (Colorado) and I77 (West Va.)

7x12 Aluminum v nose. It's not heavy, just a brick in the wind. Rolling hills in Vermont sometimes has me down into 3rd to maintain 55mph. IMG_6180.jpg

Just under 250. You'll get a tranny temp warning on the dash

    Opposite.
    No.2 is more important.

Whichever one is the pan temp is the only important one. The high temperature warning goes off when pan temperature hits 240. The torque converter transients go up and down.

The trans pan AT1 is regulated vi a thermostat.
AT2 is a valve body temp. The sensor is wired to a warning light on your dash.
The temperature regulated by the state of transmission solenoids.
For example, in 3rd gear the torque converter does not go to a full lock. It stays in a "slip" mode. If you tow in the mountains and drop to 3rd all the time, you are slipping TC and generating a heat. AT2 will continue rising until you upshift to 4th and lock the converter.
