It's not too bad but I'm thinking about space saving. If I can use the B7100 then it's worth it. I'm pretty rural so if I need something it's a 30 minutes to the store and 30 minutes back. So roughly 90 minutes or more for a trip.

Space saving you still gotta store the pto version when not in use. I almost got one but pulled the plug remembering I can just burn my deadfall. I still might someday because it’s free mulch

That's my reason free mulch. Got tons of fall along with debris from the storm.

mulch with a chipper by yourself is not cost free. gas, beating on my body more, and machine. i just dont prefer burning slash here. either too wet or dangerous.

I’ve looked into the chippers but I think my tractor is a bit small for them. The price of full size tow behind chippers is insane though so I’m also most of the time just burning brush.

Looks like a nice piece of gear and from a Pennsylvania company too. :oldglory:

I have the giant DR chipper, it can turn a huge pile of blow down into chips just about as fast as you can feed it in.

You really need a 3 man crew to run it efficiently:
    1) To feed the machine
    2) Keeps machine man stocked with branches
    3) Rakes/shovels the chips away from the machine discharge

That's why I'm looking at this particular one because it's supposed to work with 10-30 hp at the PTO. As I get closer I will reach out to every manufacturer to make sure it'll work for me.
I have a Kubota B7100 with a 3 cylinder 16 hp diesel and 13 hp at the PTO.

Had PTO chipper for a while.

Wife wanted to do her own mulch.

MANY posts about this in this thread & over at OTT.

only took a couple of times & she decided it was too much work.
It set on the shelf a while & I sold it.
Was a Bx42s. & yes they say you can run it with 15hp...... But that's not really enough.

You need 20hp @PTO minimum to not bog it down with anything more than branches.

NO. your B7100 is not enough for one of these. Just too hard on the little workhorse tractor.

I can see the allure of making your own mulch, but without a treatment product that might get ugly. I have hard enough trouble with termites around here; that would add a whole 'nother level of insanity

You might think about renting a larger pull behind and trying it out. The benefit here is more power than your pto can handle. Also I hear hydraulic auto feed is the new bees knees. A standalone pull behind you can set it up and use your tractor to haul/move brush to the chipper. I know a guy on 12 acres who rents one a couple times a year and makes massive piles of chips in n a weekend. Think he paid around 400 for the weekend. If you have limited pto hp and don’t want storage or maintenance maybe a rental could be the ticket. Anyways I’ve heard good things about the Mighty Mac and also look at Woodland Mills. They make solid chippers

I really appreciate the offer, however I would need a tractor trailer (or 3) to haul all that brush down to you... :D
