    Hey All,

Long time no talk! My truck is up there into the 300k mile mark now and I think it's about time to change out the drive shaft (carrier bearing is lookin a little sloppy at this point.) Do you guys know if a 4WD double cab, short bed drive shaft with a slip yoke will fit a 2WD double cab, short bed? I figure I should get a slip yoke version if I can (plus zerk fittings right off the bat). This is knowledge I used to know, but I haven't been in the scene for a long time so my memory could be wrong, so I'm checking with you guys. Thanks for taking the read.

edit: I know that this is the second gen forum but in case anyone has that question - for a second gen tacoma, please :)

I assume a 4wd shaft would be shorter due to the transfer case?

NO, the 2wd have a slip yoke, and 4wd do not.

Rockauto.com has a great parts lookup feature with pictures, which is how I answered this.

Ah! They MAY have mixed up the pics or something. I know for sure my 2wd sport does not, nor did my buddy's and my OTHER buddy down in Vegas had to switch his 2wd TRD OR shaft out with a slip yoke shaft when he went leaf spring LT in the rear. I'll check out my friend's 4wd TRD Sport at work and will report back with what I find so that we can be sure!

Lol I'll also track down a 4wd trd OR owner for us. There's gotta be one at a hospital.

Just change the carrier bearing and u joints. No need to get a whole new shaft

I was thinking about just having that done seeing as how I've already changed out the u-joints to greaseable ones, but since I'll be long traveling the rear after I get my newer truck in Feb., I wanna get a slip yoke on there.
