So to preface this. I've had 38k worth of bodywork/repairs done via 4 accidents since I got the thing. I have 104k miles on it.
In the past year I've had the following done to the thing.
    • All the seals replaced on the engine block
    • Transducer line replaced
    • exhaust manifold and such replaced due to an O2 sensor pooping the bed.
    • (consumables such as brakes, drums and tires are needed soon)
Is there more I should be expecting to go wrong with this truck or should I find some way to offload this nuclear carfax report once there's better deals out there?

Depends on your pocketbook. If you could find a new 2022/2023 or one with very low miles in excellent shape
at a reasonable price you might consider buying it and parking it while you drive that 2017 into the ground.

The jury has just been convened on the Gen 4's and deliberations could take the better part of another year
    before the verdict is in.

Otherwise if the 2017 still runs, even if it just limps I'd hang onto it. You are looking at the possibility of things
that could go wrong to the tune of $100-$300 a month (or nothing at all)... Compared to a sure-thing-payment
of $400+ on a new vehicle that hasn't been truly tested.

Here's my final take on buying a new 'anything':
The best time to buy a new car ( or anything else ) is when you don't need it.

Only you can decide what is best for you. What I like to do is get a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the Left list the Pro and Con of Selling your 2017. On the Right side the Pro and Con of Keeping your 2017. If you honestly make your list, when you stand back and look at it you will have your answer.

I am currently making my own list. My first grandchild arrived 3 months ago. I love my 2016 Sport and have had no problems. Just starting to wonder if an Access Cab is the best configuration for a grandpa to have.

Nope. The biggest issue was the timing cover leak. Sounds like you had that taken care of with all the seals.

Keep it. Drive the wheels off of it.
    Save money.

    This.

Either that what he said in quote above or get it fixed and keep it as long as you like. If you want a new vehicle, that is fine, it is really up to you. But I suggest that you get your truck fixed before going to dealer.

@TA2016, you can keep AC Tacoma no matter you have grandkid or not. Two kids can fit in back of access cab. If you have more than 3 grandkids, then it's time for a new vehicle unless you have wife car which is a SUV or something with more seats.

No argument on all of your above points. I should have stated I am also making my list to show my wife why I might need a new truck.

I'm expecting a meteor or something at this point. Or my truck is the highlander of Tacos. Unsure at this point. Not 1 accident has been my fault. When insurance asked what I could have done different after the last accident and I said "not existed?". Concussed brained wanted to say "If dad pulled out years ago?"

I got a sticker and some cool valve stem caps...
I think everyone has brought very good points. But there is also the point of "peace of mind".

If it was me, and u can afford a new truck payment... get rid of it. Once things r touched they r never the same. And ur truck has been "touched" atleast 4x. It all comes down to ur personal finances and what kind of monthly payments u r comfortable with.

Dealers r hurting to sell vehicles now. U can get really good deals on 24 closeouts. But, financing rates still suck... unless u get manufacturer incentive financing.
