They sound like a nice tire and may be a good choice for me when I need to replace my Falkan AT3s. But at the current rate, that'll be a while. When that time comes, we'll see if you still feel the same way about them as you do now.

Local dealership is running a buy 3 tires get the 4th for $1 promotion as long as they mount them. $160 for mounting. I'd pay $100 at other shops to mount 4 tires, so I took the dealy o and got some Toyo at3's for the work truck.

Hypothetically, if i had the cash i would be waiting on the delivery of my Land Cruiser :anonymous: But i think mike had the most rational answer to the question i asked of SL vs E. I think ill gamble just to see. Need to get an alignment first, been running the "eye-ball" one Zane and i did, which drives ok if a little twitchy.

EDIT: on Headstrongs website they have a bunch of components from Elka... have any of you heard of them? (just curious, going full kings)

Yeah they have had a shock out for a while now. I remember @NYCO I think ran some or maybe it was Jason.

They made shocks for dirt bikes and bikes for years and got into the truck game around 2015ish maybe?? Anyways, I haven't kept tabs on them directly. I think most considered them on par with Foxes or a bit better. Been awhile though. I don't think they are bad though. Not sure how they compare to a King or ADS. Which I'd take ADS over King if you care. To get similar internals as ADS you'd have to get the race series from King which...is spendy.

I doubt it'll change my opinion. I've had them long enough now to really like them. They wear good with good roation. Hell I want a set for my DD snow tires(you can stud them). Just don't make a size I like for the daily. Gotta pick a new snow tire here soon though..

Why are you so keen to become a King fan boi? Is it to be different because so many of us are gleefully running ADS?

Well last time I was looking at ADS, specifically for the rear, they don't come with the right size bushing for the stock mounts, which is a non-starter. I put a set on a friends second gen and liked the way the ride on the street.

Dirt King Fabrication's line of coilovers/shocks now too. Just threw on a full set of Rebuilt Toytec $450 marketplace specials on my 2nd gen. I'm impressed. But that's coming from a junk spacer with OEM struts/shocks.

Saw some Toytec Elkas for sale for $25, that's right, $25 on marketplace for a Tundra... but one had a bent shaft and I didn't feel like tracking down rebuild parts just to resell em. The OEM operations they're doing for Toytec and Dirt King seem decent ride wise but they're cutting corners in other places, like the 1/2 or 5/8 shafts vs a regular 7/8th one.

The rears that are bolt in for your truck from King will be way too short BTW, you'll have to get custom with your mounting somehow

Insane price. Bent shaft would warrant an entirely new coilover in my eyes though. Agreed, they ride good and will perform perfect for what this truck does. My first gen has 7/8 shafts front and rear. 2.5s up front and 2.0s with resi in the rear. It gets beat on too hard haha.

I'm overworking my King 2.0s in the back right now, they do okay for a long time but I think paired with the 63s where they really have to control everything I just can't stuff enough compression valving in them. The weight holding of the 63s and how neutral they sit makes it so the shocks have all of the control of the rear end, unlike most slightly oversprung setups these trucks typically have. But trying to control all that is tough, I have some pretty aggressive compression valving in them and I still have to crank the adjusters to max most of the time on dirt. Hoping it will be a little easier for the 2.5s and I can use the compression adjusters in a more neutral setting once I play with the valving a little.

Yeah I figured I'm running against the current with the shock lengths no matter what with these alcans. Need to pull at least one leaf from each pack, but lacking the ability to do so short term. Hopefully all this will be a nice b-day/Xmas gift to myself here soon.

The kings for your truck's stock rear mounting are more appropriate for a 1" lift at most really, even if you got it down to 3" it would have like .5" of droop left haha. That's why you always see those rears for sale on here. In fact there's a pair for sale right now.

So for the fronts I'm looking at 600# coils down from the 700s, and I want to crank them down to get back closer to stock height. So the rear has to come down, and then it should be more manageable I would think? Am I missing something in that logic? I guess I could take it to a spring shop to work in n the springs.

Tangent: can a shop de-arc springs?

Yeah if you're going to come down that far they'll be doable at least. Something is weird about King shocks and COs for the 1st gen, they're all very short. The fronts are 1.25" of shaft travel (much more at the wheel obv) shorter than any other brand and they seem to apply that to the rear as well. So as long as you're okay with it coming down in height and not flexing particularly far (even against stock) they'll probably ride nice after some tuning at least (I haven't ridden with untuned Kings, but heard mixed reviews on the factory valving).

Ride quality is all I'm after, not lift. Opting for the ext travel coilovers since-why not. Wheelers is on sale, 10% off until the weekend so I have a bit of time to mull over options in the rear.

I drove that 2022 Durango all weekend and while I didn't like it I couldn't help but noticed how much smoother the suspension was around town. I'm way over sprung.
