Speaking of mail, our mail delivery is now coming around 6:30-6:45. My guess is they are shorthanded and somebody is pulling a double shift. By the time we get to near Christmas, I'll probably be in bed before the mail gets delivered. Thankfully, it's mostly junk mail.

Short handed or someone on vacation or medical leave.
My old neighborhood was like that a lot. We didn’t have a dedicated carrier assigned to our neighborhood as it wasn’t a large enough route for them to add another salary to the budget. So whoever got back to the office with an empty truck first got our route that day. Or we didn’t get mail at all. Or mail for the entire block was left in the first box and up to the resident to distribute it our selves. It took a subdivision of 300+ homes being build for them to finally hire someone permanent

    Good evening everyone.

Lots of up and down a ladder today, the arches of me feets and lower back are screaming bloody murder right now. I had to make blocking to go between the joists before cutting out the rotted section of the rim joist. I had to run to 84 Lumber and get a piece of 2x10 because the rim joist on the house was exactly 9" wide. Who the hell frames a house and cuts down a 2x10 to be exactly 9" wide??? rant over..

I was at it longer than expected today but at least tomorrow I can hang the ledger board and set the post and start doing some layout work. It's supposed to be 80° tomorrow.

I hope that everyone is relatively well and hanging in there, some have more on their plate than others.

if i've learned one thing in construction is that i will never understand why builders do most of what they do. never makes sense.

I always joke that if Tom Silva from This Old House ever came to fix mine, he'd say something along the lines of "get the gas can outta da cahh and gets me a match"

    CONGRATS to you!!

There are builders who are competent and qualified. Then there are people who have a tool belt and say “get er done “. There may be a justification for ripping a 2x10, or 2x8 down to a specific size, but it’s a major no-no. A 2x8 may be stronger than a ripped down 2x10, depending on location of knots, this is why it’s a major no-no. Knot head :D

Good morning :hattip:Hump Day, probably going to do leaves today. Smoke was thick last night, fortunately no one caught the neighborhood on fire. It’s been really dry since July, things can get out of hand pretty quickly. Got a young kid that moved in across the street, he hasn’t figured it out yet. Hopefully he has friends on the fire department.o_O
