Quick question ... I had AmeriGlo night-sights installed on my G45 in 2020. They still slow at night but I cannot recall just how bright they are now compared to then. How long do tritium sights last in your experience?

I’ll second the previous comment. I had one for nearly 16 years before it started to finally rip at the stitching. Put that poor bag through hell

My local one also had a double rifle case for about the same price. I picked it up and it felt like it was already loaded up, sturdy and heavy for sure.

I was surprised to see firearm related "stuff" at a Costco in Calif. The ammo boxes could be considered garage storage.

An hour of bang-bang at the local range. Rented a SW 642 internal hammer DA 38 Special. Ran some rounds of 9MM through my G45 for comparison since it has not been allowed out to play for a while. :anonymous: My patterns with the snub-nose were not good due to the long-pull DA past 15 ft but good enough to take down a person if needed. Patterns with G45 were decent at 25 ft.

Yes, I need to turn in my weapons ...

Never tried shooting 'long distance' before, but always been a want and dream. Took my rifle out to 480 yards shooting at 8 inch plate steel, first round impact! Shot half a box, hit every single time. What a rifle.

I have a sock on a long gun Weatherby. Just checked it and slides around. Also have several silicon treated pistol socks that are all good. Thanks for the info.

Make sure you check the birthdate because it’s from the time of manufacture. Some unscrupulous dealers are selling sights that are at least five years old.

I’m also genuinely surprised that Costco has gun stuff in California, I’ve picked up ammo cases before that were simply labeled as storage boxes but obviously were meant for pistol and rifle ammo.

i wouldnt necessarily label dealers as unscrupulous if their stock is older...not all night sight manufacturers make it easy and obvious to tell when you look at them in the packaging...and when you have 100 sets come in an order...it's not likely even looked at or it cannot be determined without opening each package...

it's one thing if youre able to see the date code on Trijicons or if you're looking at a pistol in a case with them already installed...but totally different for packaged sights in a store sometimes

Anyone in here have a Ruger American rifle gen 2?
I have had an itch for a .243 for a long time, we have an old Remington Mohawk 600 in .243 but we’ve never been able to find an accurate load for it, not sure what’s up but I don’t trust it to hunt with.
Stopped by the gun shop today and put one of these new American rifles on layaway, ordered a muzzle device so I can put a can on it, and I’ll probably pull the Vortex Viper HST 4-16x44 off of my 6.8SPC rifle to have on it for this deer season. It should be a good little rifle that my wife can shoot if she goes hunting with me.

My wife has the gen 2 predator. But she opted for a 7mm-08.

If it was an old barrel it’s probably burned out. .243/6mms do that.

Another tip is consider a 6mm creed or one of those with a longer neck, so you can load longer bullets with a longer (CBTO) OAL. As the barrels throat erodes your loads will change, and usually you’ll (ought to) be tweaking your seating depth.

It's not just Costco's in CA. Costco's in other states sell them as storage boxes. Accurate description imo anyway. :notsure:

I considered the 7mm-08, if I didn’t already have enough .243 to last a few seasons I probably would’ve gone with it instead.

That’s kinda what I’m assuming, I haven’t tried to bore scope it yet but I have no clue what the round count on it is, I just remember seeing it when I was a kid in the early 00’s at my grandparents house, I shot my first deer with it probably around 2004, and I don’t remember it being able to group back then.
Google is showing nearly nothing for rem 600 parts (in stock anyway) so I may have to get a full custom barrel. Might change caliber if that’s the case.

Good to know about the 6mm creed, I might play with stuff like that in a few years once I’m more settled.

Google is telling me the 600 Mohawk and 700 barrels are the same but you'll have to do some minor fitting and headspacing

You have to do that anyways if it’s not a prefit.
You need an action wrench or recoil lug wrench to actually set the headspace on Remington 700ish rifles.

I just figured it was going to be a conversation between him and his gunsmith anyway.

About 10 years ago, I would have said spinning a barrel to fit was the ultimate way to go for accuracy, but I’ve played with bartlein prefits and while I might not take it to a competition, they seem to shooter better then most people.

The issue with accurizing these rifles is you are going to put a barrel on a lathe, then you might as well blueprint the rifle, so everything is square.

    Then torque tune

    then inlet, and or bed.

    etc.
