2022 TRD Pro tire question for 17" wheels

Newbie here. Just bought a used 22 TRD Pro. I want to go up to 17" 4Runner wheels (+4 offset compared to +13 of OEM). Truck comes with 265/70R16's. From my research 265/70R17's will work but some recommend 255/75R17 or 255/80R17. I have OEM mudflaps and don't want to remove them. Can anyone shed light on what will fit without rubbing? I'm assuming 255/80's are out of the question if I don't want rubbing so would there be a better choice between the 255's and the 265's? Thanks and sorry if this thread is beating a dead horse.

 

it will rub with 265/70/17 unless you have an alignment done and adjust the caster. You will also get rub with 255/80/17.

With stock suspension, you won't have the freedom to adjust caster independently from camber. So 265/70-17 will rub. Either get high-clearance flaps or stick with 265/65-17.

 

How about with the 255's?

It's amazing the different information out there. A lot of posts say 265/70's fit the higher 2022 pro's without issue.

 

I have a 2021 TRD off-road with the 17” 4Runner pro wheels and run 265/70/17 ridge grapplers. I have never had any alignment adjustments made, and have never rubbed on anything. I had stock mudflaps initially, and now run tufskinz, and also no rubbing. Not sure why someone is feeding you lies about that size tire, plenty of people run that size with zero issues

255/75 has been reported to have the same rubbing as 265/70. They’re not enough narrower. I don’t know specifically about the pro but I fail to see how lift would help. The flaps are pretty flat and raising the body I would think will just put a different lower section of the flap against the tire. My truck came with the Sema wheels and 265/70 and it definitely hit the right flap if the wheel was turned at all and had a dynamic force (bump, braking, etc). It was very minor but man it annoyed me. Flaps removed would fix it but I didn’t want to remove them.

 

With those wheels there are tons of people who have a minor rub when turning and braking or hitting a bump. It is not lies at all. That tire size is generally very successful, on other wheels. It’s fine on that wheel too if you don’t mind a rub here and there or if you are lucky and somehow it doesn’t happen to you even with flaps. Most rub with that size tire and wheel if mud flaps are on the truck.

 

My son has them on his OR with stock suspension using 265/65/17 and there is no rubbing

 

"feeding you lies" lol I have the setup and others have also reported rubbing, on the OEM mudflaps. Not all tires are the exact same size, given the same tire tire size rating. I ditched the OEM front mudflaps and got some super low profile ones, no more rubbing.

 

No mud flaps.

You are lucky. Plenty of people do rub with that setup going up curb ramps or backing up.

Hell, even some 4Runner TRD Pros with 265/70-17 OEM tires rub the bumper cover, so Toyota issued T-SB-0070-19 to trim a corner off. The fender liner is also trimmed with two new mounting holes drilled, to tuck it higher: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10162789-9999.pdf Evidently Toyota didn't do enough fitment testing before coming up with the port-installed Pro package.

 

265/70/17 BFG K02. No mudflaps and no rubbing!

So will 265/70r17 fit without the flaps? Im assuming the 255/75's would too then?
