Totaled Tacoma - Rebuild in Process!

Is this in additiona to the 7th injector kit from URD? What does the Haltech ECU provide?

 

This is in lieu of the URD 7th Injector, which is crap compared to the Haltech.

Just curious who did you get your engine from. Looks like its going to stick up past the stock hood. Great looking so far.

 

The Haltech seems to be a bit more hardcore than what I need at the moment. Maybe in the future if I decide to run high boost I'll think about swapping the ECU. It also looks to be quit a bit more money than the 7th injector kit.

But for my application, from what I've read, going the 7th injector kit route with this new 1320 supercharger is what most people recommend.

 

Yota1 built the engine.

Toyota offered a TRD supercharger as an option when the 1st gens were on sale. This is designed to fit under the stock hood.

I still have not decided what the rest of the exhaust will be. My cat was stolen when the truck was at the body shop, so I just have a test pipe welded in place with my stock exhaust and muffler.

I've been listening to several videos on YouTube, and I think I like the magnaflow mufflers the best. They seem to be the least raspy, but I still wish I could hear them in person.

There are some custom exhaust shops I want to visit once my truck is drivable to see what options they have.

The shop working on my truck doesn't do custom exhausts, but the owner said he may still see if there is anything he can do. He doesn't have a pipe bender or anything, but he can weld.

 

Definitely more involved, but because stock ECU is constantly adjusting to counteract the changes made by the 7th injector, you will never get the 7th injector to run consistently, ever.

I did that all, and if I have any advice, it would be to save your money for the Haltech. Run the stock sized pulley until you can get the Haltech.

 

Any updates on this install? Got a message from Yota1 that mine should be ready in ~5 weeks, so who knows? Maybe I will get your old one

 

I'm actually about to leave here soon to head over to the shop (it's about an hour away from where I live).

Not a lot of updates.

Shop owner took a trip to Big Ben last weekend and had a back log of other cars when he got back, so he was not able to work on my truck as much as he wanted.

He did clean up the throttle body and replace the idle air control valve. He has been cleaning and rebuilding every part he takes off that he can, or ordering toyota OEM replacement parts when needed. No point in wasting this opportunity of saving money on labor when he already has to remove the part to being with.

He also found an exhaust shop in a nearby town of Fredericksburge to put together a simple setup from the headers back, with a single cat. He took some measuresments and sent them over to the exhaust shop to get some quotes for cost.

 

Also, shout out to @Birdog for selling me a set of LCAs with new bushings and skid plates for a great price.

No major updates in the past week from the shop.

I did get a message about my oil cooler. It was completely gunked up with sludged oil, but they were able to get it all cleaned up and restored again without having to buy a new one.

I knew the previous owner (family member) was bad at doing oil changes (sometimes going 15-20k miles between), but there was never any oil sludge that showed up in the engine (top end at least) or oil pan, so it seems it all got stuck in the oil cooler. Did not seem to cause any obvious issues as I've owned the truck for about 8 years now.

I don't have abefore photo, only an after photo of the cleaned oil cooler.

 

Was sent this a few minutes ago. The engine is in.

Edit: The shop is waiting for a new carrier bearing to arrive before putting the transmission in. Then they are going to take some measurements for a custom exhaust they are working with another shop with to fabricate for me.

Nothing major.

The owner has the shopped closed right now for his family vacation. He mentioned that the new exhaust from a shop in Kerville has been ordered and waiting on shipping. He will get to wielding it together as soon as he opens up at the beginning of the year.

I'm thinking the truck should be running under its own power by the second week of January, but for the complete list of other repairs and upgrades (still a bunch of stuff to do after the engine is done), I'm not expecting everything to be done before end of February.

 

All exhaust pieces were delivered. The shop is going to weld them together and install next week. There is some electrical work that needs to be fixed before the first fire, but the shop is aiming for Jan. 25 to fire the new engine up the first time. I plan to be there and take some video.

 

Have a small update today. The shop is still waiting on some parts to be delivered, so we were not able to do a first fire of the engine yet.

The exhaust is up, but not welded yet. There is still some minor work to do on the transmission (some parts on back order), so the exhaust is just clamped in place to allow it to be moved out of the way if needed.

The new front axels are in, as well as the new LCAs. The damage caliber collision did to the wiring still needs some work, but at least the damage is repairable.

It's slow, but as new parts are delivered, the shop is able to get a little more work done.

I also just signed a contract this weekend to have a new house built in a town much closer to where the shop is located (currently I'm about an 1hr+ drive from the shop, but will be about 20 minutes away in the new house).

So now it's a race to see what gets finished first, the Tacoma or the house
