Looking to get a hard bed cover for my 2010 Tacoma. What do y’all recommend, which ones should I stay away from. I am thinking this isn’t going to be cheap….

If you have a local retailer of caps and covers, swing by and see if they have used ones. Folks trade them in when changing things up.

The Leer cover that was on my truck was great, but I needed a soft cover that folded up and was easy off and on. So I traded in the Leer.

I have a Bison Trifold hard cover, folds all the way back to the rear window. Still have full use of my bed.

Tri fold hard covers are nice . IMO solids look better but limit use.

I've got an A.R.E. hard cover for sale.

That's exactly what we bought after buying our new 2005 Tacoma. Same color too. Have been very happy with it overall. Replaced the lift struts once and they're still a bit weak. Considered getting a Leer and sometimes wish we did -- I think they look a bit better than our A.R.E. -- the latch system is different, not sure which is better. If I had it to do over, I'd probably look into a trifold but might still get a one-piece.

Another option is to buy a used cover off FB first and see if you like it. They can be had for pretty cheap. Then decide if it's something you like. I thought it was what I wanted and once I got one I figured out quickly that I wanted a full on topper. It was just more functional for me. Luckily I only spent $80 on the cover and was able to get my money back when I sold it.

I got my Snug Lid off of the for sale section of the forum here. Took a lot of fixing up and a repaint as it hadn't been taken care of but it was the look I wanted and the paint work I got in trade with the body shop. If you want to use the bed as a truck bed then it's not the most practical but honestly mine see groceries more than anything and it's not too hard to remove if I need the full bed.

I don’t. I have had a tonneau, Softopper, and shell. The latter are useful. The former is not and has the room and accessibility of a shoe box.
