C59-314 or C59-352 Dobinsons springs for this setup? Experiences?

    Hello all,

I did some forum digging but couldn't find an answer as it seems to be an opinion more than a science.

Going to be running a C4 lo-pro front bumper with smittybilt winch and light bar. I estimate ~160lbs up front with these. The question is C59-314 or C59-352 Dobinsons springs? Looking for 2-2.5 inch lift. I understand I can go C59-314 and add some preload to get to that height, or just run the C59-352 which should put me at about 2" with the added weight and no preload.

Looking for a somewhat comfy on-road ride. I heard the heavy rate can be a little stiff. Anyone running either spring with similar weight that can chime in with their experiences?

    Thank you!

What did you end up going with? Dobinsons recommends the C59-314 spring with the preload set at 1/2" for 2.5" of lift for a similar setup (3rd gen with ~100 lbs. up front).

It would help if you posted specs for the springs you are asking about, ie spring rate and length. Brand names and part numbers require the reader to do research.

I went with the C59-352 in the end. No preload.

Total weight up front is about ~160 lbs. C4 Lo Pro bumper, winch, and light bar. I like the ride, not too stiff. Definitely much firmer than stock.

Looks to be about 2" of lift, as expected by the specs on Exit Off Road's site.

According to CrikeyMike's TW posted specs, that 352 spring is 730 lb., 385 mm length.

I was going by this on his page for Exit Off Road:

    Select Front Coils
Note: Access Cab models come with 1" lift from the factory. Deduct 1" lift from the lifted heights, or add longer/taller struts to regain that 1"
C59-238 - 0-1/4" lift Closest to stock height
C59-300 - 1" Lift with stock front end
C59-302 - 1.6" Lift stock front end, 1.25" with light bumper OR winch
    C59-314 - 2" lift stock front end, 1.75" with 100LBS
    C59-350 - 1.5" to 1.75" with 110-220LBS, 2" with stock weight (heavy rate)
C59-352 - 2" lift with 110-220 lbs, or 2.5" with stock weight (heavy rate)
    C59-354 - 2.4" lift with 110-220LBS, or 2" with 230-300LBS (heavy rate)
    C59-318 - 3.0" lift with 110-220LBS (heavy rate)

Thanks for the info!! I reached out to CrikeyMike and he confirmed that C59-314 with 1/2" of preload should work. I would rather have a soft ride than too harsh.

Curious what you ended up going with for Dobinsons springs.

Funny you would respond 3 months later, which just so happens to be 24h after I installed the coilovers. I went with the 314 coils, 1/2" of preload. I initially measured 25" from center of hub to fender, it has since settled to 23". I don't have more than 100 lb. weight up front. Going in for alignment tomorrow.

Rides nice. I have the adjusters completely open and will do more tinkering in the coming weeks.

Haha nice, good timing. How much lift did that give you after it settled? Did you do a before measurement?

Unfortunately I did not grab a before measurement. I have installed several lifts on the truck and have lost track at this point. I would say 2".

Do they feel firmer than stock? Stock was pretty bouncy. I was concerned the 314 spring would not have been the right choice for ~150lbs. Perhaps I was wrong.

Around 21" hub center to fender edge is 3rd Gen stock front height, so 23" would be 2".

I noticed that Mike's TW product posts for 2nd Gen suspension offerings and then for 3rd Gen suspension offerings, are the same springs, and the description for the 314 springs is the only one that changed.

I haven't had stock suspension since 2019, but over the 4 suspension packages I've had on the truck I like these the best and plan to keep them on permanently. Yes, they are firmer than stock but not harsh. I bet the 314 spring is perfect, I'm very happy in the couple days of driving since installing this weekend.

Agreed. I was shocked how much the springs settled after install, but 23" up front is ideal for me.
