Just yesterday I was welding, and I always go for the 3350. The 1740 just collects dust.

    You're gonna love it.

New 3350 convert checking in. It's wild how much better I can see now, not as much the pool but the edges that I need to hit.

What happens with a flat grind with a tig electrode? When I say flat, I mean the way electrode come new in package.

    Well, depends.

If you drop it, the mere weight of it won't affect it even if it landed on concrete.

If you lick it, it'll taste nasty (assuming) but won't hurt anything.

If you ask a friend how's it look, he/she might not know what it is if they don't TIG weld.

If you ask us, you'll get various answers cause we might not understand what you're asking.

    Did you lick it yet?

You'll just get a really wobbly and misshaped arc if it strikes a complete arc at all. It may ball up a bit and get an okay at best arc. Though i'll say it is a neat thing to try that and various different grinds so you get an idea of what a bad arc looks like or the different changes the grind makes. You might even find a preference

    Welding Table question

I have idea for a (lightweight ?) mobile welding table, and would some opinions on the idea. I say lightweight, thinking this will be for gunsmithing work (my new career), which will be mostly TIG, and some assorted MIG (not bumpers or sliders).

Start with a HF mobile base/tool cart: To the top of the lid, put down a 1/4" piece of sheet steel (for strength, and to carry the load to the frame of the cart).

Next, if needed, some spacers, then a table top, such as:

    https://weldtables.com/collections/protop-welding-tables/products/protop-24x36-welding-table

I looked at the HF table ( ), but it seems a little on the thin side. Maybe not, given how I will be mounting it.

My biggest concern is whether or not the cart will be strong enough to carry the additional weight. And, would the cart body get in the way when welding (no knee room).

    Good idea? Bad? Other ideas?

Sounds cool! The cart says 700lb capacity. I think if the lid meets the top by hanging over (and not edge to edge) it would work. Depending on the bottom of the welding table and how thick that lid is you might not need the plate. ?

    #12 mesh instafan forever.

After listening to the Monger, he telling the truth and nothing but for carbon steel! The puddle moves much better and less amps can be used. I only had it set at 15 on the gas, and damn if it didn’t improve the welding. Good stuff:hattip:

The lid opens 90deg so you won't need to worry about the gas shocks holding up the extra weight. All of the drawers lock if the lid is closed. Before you buy one, see how the latches work.

Not having space under the table will probably get annoying. Best to be as comfortable as possible while welding. Especially on something like guns where things can get technical depending on the welds and materials

    A welding table top won't add much - I mean for example a 2' x 4' of 3/16" weighs only like +60lbs.

Based on the dimensions of the cart, you won't be running much weight on top.

The questions that come to mind are - is your welder small enough to fit where you need it? I assume it'll go underneath the drawers?

I don't know about you but I would hate to lean over just to fire up my machine or even adjust any settings as that'll get old real quick.

Then you'll want to fab up a little platform to add to your cart for resting your bottle on (and securing it so it doesn't fall).

Everything else is you mentioned is super easy, and I think the items I mentioned haven't been considered yet.

This is one thing I'm thinking on. I could sit at the corner of the table for my knees/legs, but that might not be the best way to position the part I am welding.

I wasn't planning on storing/using the welder on this cart - I was only thinking of using the drawers for storage.

My main thought in this was to have a welding table on wheels - one I could roll away for storage, and wheel into the middle of the garage when I need to weld.

Thank you all for your feedback. I don't think this idea will work as well practically as it did in my head. o_O Time for some more thinking...
