I'd still like clarification on where the part came from.

I'm sure we all would like clarification...

Also, just what does "all the associated parts on the passenger side" address? Brake parts, because the seal was leaking... or?

Has the OP measured the rubber seal to see if it could perhaps come close to the diameter of the axel seal supplied in post #24 as 2.25" in diameter?

A relook at the picture in Post #18 brings me to the question of could the part be a part of the E-locker? See the upper row, the second part from the left - I believe that is the coil/solenoid to move the locking ring to lock the locker. The inside is black and appears similar to the broken ring found at the oil change.

    This and that
It could have been in the last bottle of diff fluid. Somehow inside there and gotten squeezed on in.

    Well that's certainly dramatic.

    Yikes!

That should be an interesting story! Because it feels like there are some missing pieces here for something that big. Not that you are leaving anything out of what you are aware of, but it seems something more than a leaking axle seal in such a short period of time would be needed to seize a gearset.

My hope is the rear brake on the leaking side froze up, threw a shoe or something wonky and the diff is actually ok.

Some shits not adding up. How did something that big which is NOT in the diff show up on a fluid drain? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is the most wonderful thing I've seen today. Thank you, internet man. You made my day.

I picked up the repaired tacoma on the way home today. Paying the bill was painful, but the hardest part was hearing that all the o-rings that should be there, were there.

    I guess we'll never know...

OP, can you show a picture of the work order? Minus the personal information, of course.

So many seek help, get resolution and don't come back with the rest of the story. Like they don't want us to learn or something......

There was no root cause analysis. There’s not much to learn here. We’ve been robbed.

What do you want to bet that the root cause was an e-brake seize up which only required a stiff kick to solve?
