I am not arguing with you. If you all are telling me it won’t affect oil pressure then I accept that. Dip stick readings are high which is my main concern. I thought oil pressure would be a proxy for oil levels that but sounds like it’s not. They overfilled my truck the last time (before my last truck was stolen) but nobody would pay any attention when I sent an email and had no time to book another appointment. They never showed me anything—my experience is all they say is oh it’s supposed to be that way no matter what you put in front of them, whatever it takes to make you go away. I’m not necessarily the wrong party. Just asking for some help.

1/4" or so high on the dipstick is not going to harm your engine. Probably translates to about 1/3 qt or less. Be glad that the dealer did at least that. I had a Nissan dealer once that failed to put any oil back in after an oil change. Caught it before leaving the lot. Always check your oil before leaving the dealer!

Yeah. I did check it. Also checked the skid plates and bolts. The issue isn’t me not checking it’s just the mindless “that’s normal” when I showed them the dipstick reading. They just keep repeating that until you go away. But thanks for this feedback.

Well, it's their 'normal'. Every 2024 Tacoma that gets their oil changed there probably has the same dipstick reading. Probably a particular notch on the oil gun. The lower notch, not enough oil. The higher notch, too much......much more than yours. So that's where the tech puts it.

The oil gauge is not even close to being accurate, forget about the oil gauge, your oil pressure is within specs, and there is nothing wrong, move on

LOL. That’s 100% true. And the average person gives zero fucks. I’m going to start changing my own oil.

I wonder how many quarts the low versus high notches are. I remember the old 3G manual had that level of detail.

    Manual (p526) says 1.5 qt.
Says to add oil if at or below the lower mark.
Also warns about not exceeding the upper limit.

Exactly. And it looks like I could be 0.5 to 0.75 overfilled.

I don’t mean to hijack your thread but where or how can I see the oil pressure gauge on my 2024 Tacoma? I asked on another thread but really got no clear response. Your overfilling issue, probably is no problem because it’s a small amount, but way too much oil can cause aeration and foaming from the crank passing through the fluid in almost any engine.

agree. It's about a half qt by my guess too.

I checked the oil in my truck after a couple thousand mile road trip. Cold engine, thought the truck was flat. For some reason it looked about a half quart low. Still between the dots though.

Added a half quart while on the trip. Thought everything was fine, got back home a few weeks later and noticed it was over the full line on the dipstick.

I'm a little OCD about it so I drained about 400ml out.

Now it's just a hair above the full line.

Either I screwed up measuring it, or there's some sort of crazy fuel dilution. I would put the odds on my error.

In either case, I don't think I have qt is really going to make a damn bit of difference.

The moral of the story don't fill it to the full line, go about 3/4 between the dots. And don't stress about the oil level as long as it's between the dots.

Thanks, that is the exact display I seem to be unable to view. I have seen a number of pictures with the two big gauges layout but the single is what I needed, with the volt and oil pressure. Isn’t there a flow chart somewhere for differing displays? The manual is like most Japanese manuals, ie, translated so organization is lacking. I programmed & ran CNC’s for years and their manuals were just as bad. The info is there but finding it!

Use a file and score (light passes are fine) both sides of the acceptable read area on the dipstick. Just remember to clean it before re-inserting...

Got her warm on an 25 mile drive, and let her sit for an hour. Clean read.

    OK, now move on…
It’s not overfilled, your oil pressure is OK!

Sanding and or filing will work in most cases. I have always beadblasted the ends of all my dip sticks.. I need all the extra help to see with my senior eyes.. just like everyone has said clean clean clean before inserting
