If you do the assembly yourself, you'll need new tophats. They can be sourced locally, for about $30 each.

My front dobinsons MRAs have about 48K on them. They could use a nitrogen top off.
Not that I've heard about. But I think the target market for that line is not generally as hardcore so the rebuild interval is probably longer.

I bought the bottom-of-the-barrel Dobinson suspension for my 4Runner. It has worked very well for me. It has 80,00 miles on it and still rides fine. Since I don't have mongo tires, I kept the factory UCA's. I have read about aftermarket UCA problems, but the factory UCA's keep plodding along without any issues. I have not seen one bad comment about the factory UCA's. I did order my set-up with the 302 coils. It didn't give me the lift I was hoping for. (Hope is a lousy plan.) I should have gotten the 314 coils. I only swapped out the shocks/coils and I run my 4R to its' limits. It does what I want it to do. Week end warrior stuff and does fine for daily driver duty. The cheapo 4Runner Dobi suspension is currently on sale for $1020.

Are you a speech writer for the V.P.?

Oh... I am in your court-thats why I originally went with Dobison. I do have a bling issue though and because so much of my stuff is hand made and rough I need some nice lookies, so... Now we have Locked. Saturday will bring a new look under the flattie. Then I have to see what Dobison is going to charge me to redo my year old shocks so I can try and recover some of the ouch of buying bling.

No, not really. Shocks in general have a lifespan of 50-100k miles before they "should" be replaced or rebuilt, and I've seen many people run that many miles and never have any issues. The only problems would be if some dildo tries to open up the nitrogen valve or something and need it repressurized.

Most brands that require and need regular rebuilds are using really junky seals that simply fail or allow gas to burp out and junk to get in. If they would just upgrade their seals and spend some more money on them, they wouldn't need to be rebuilt so often, but I think they like that maintenance cost income and selling rebuild kits.

I have IMS up front and MRA in back. One year of driving. MRA are GONE. Probably my fault-I won't assign blame-but I did hope for more than a year. Could have bought FOX and got that. Not sure about what is going on up front but they still seem solid. Been a rough couple months with uniballs, axle boots, drive shaft and rear shocks... Oh, and I forgot the wheel bearings too

When I raced, I had Fox on my buggy. In that case, junk seals wasn't a problem because it was rare that the shocks didn't get serviced several times a year. For street/trail use, they should use much better seals and reserve the not-so-good stuff for the applications that will get serviced more frequently.

You're definitely not alone. I think the super high end rebuildable shocks are cool if you do a bunch of high-speed stuff. But, I think for most of us they are a bit of overkill. Not that I have an issue with Overkill, but it's just not a necessity.

Edit: I can also see going with the higher-end stuff just for the adjustability.

I've been happy with the bilstein's 6112's, and I'm considering going with them again the next time around. I'm just not sure what to do in the rear.

The MT64 is also an option.

I do believe I know a guy that has some 314 coils that are not currently being used.
    They are Moab Tested.

I know a guy that has some front MRAs with 352 springs laying on the garage floor. Moab and AZ tested. Lol
