    Definitely will check that out!

I definitely wish I was closer to you all, the TW community was awesome when I was living in MA, and @uurx was cool too
I’ve been watching every episode! Definitely an inspiration, we are planning to do a similar ground-up resto on it as well. We have a YouTube channel in the works and have documented the process of getting the car so far! Just haven’t had enough to upload lol

So, I had my oil tank replaced about a year ago. The guy who cleans my boiler mentioned he thought the tank was too close for code when he did that this fall. He works for an oil company that wouldn't service my area during the day and does basic cleanings and maintenance for people he knows on weekends, but didn't want to take on a tank as a side job.

Now, when the other company installed it, they did shift it about a foot closer to the boiler because it simplified the vent/fill piping, but I didn't think anything of it. Code states 5 ft, however, and apparently they never considered that when they moved the tank. It's currently about 4.5 ft away from the boiler. The old tank was probably 5.5 ft.

I emailed the company that put it in and was very nice about it - sent an old versus new picture, said I was just made aware of the issue just now and my primary concern is if I ever replace that boiler, I'll never be able to get a new one to pass an inspection without having the tank moved (tank isn't 5 ft from the flue pipe either). I'm awaiting a response and I'm hoping they acknowledge their mistake and offer to correct it, but I'm a little afraid it's going to be a fight.

 I don't know what the border is either. Not like it really matters.
I think for the year it's pretty much winding down. We have toys for tots coming up but otherwise it's pretty much wrapped up, getting cold and gates are going up for snowmobile then mud season. Fortunately this far south we still have Freetown and the RI spot that stay "open", I guess?

@mjillson keep your eye out for a toys for tots post, if I remember I'll tag you in it.

@mach1man001 @crashngiggles (right?) do y'all have a date in mind? Just trying to make sure I keep it open as things start to pop up for weekend activities :)

Don't know AZ :) I love it when I was out there. Went in March, got away from the cold of New England...

(that was somewhere on 40 in the mountains).

Cool place. It was sunny and 75 at the dog park, locals were wearing parkas (I am not exaggerating).

Same, it was wild. When I was driving into the campground in TX at night, I was going over some rolling hills outside Amarillo. My Northeast brain was like "Oh I can't wait to see the woods when I do this trip in the day!"

    The woods:

    upload_2024-11-1_8-37-52.jpg

    Barely a tree in sight.
Real cool, would go back. Would consider living there, we'll see. So far this winter hasn't done much to nudge us toward the "it's too cold, you gotta go" route....It being 75 on halloween and all.

Our channel is called Boost and Boops. We have shorts posted up for now, actual videos coming eventually.

I know MA code is totally different, however if there is a shielded, non-combustible barrier between the tank and the boiler, you should be ok. For example, if your single wall smoke pipe is too close to the wood of the house, you can put up tin panning with spacers on the backside to be a sort of heat shield.

Also, I know a LOT of inspectors don’t know a damn thing about what they’re looking for when it comes to new boiler installs. It’s kinda pathetic.

We stayed in Amarillo and what blew my mind was the freakin elevation! Going through NM and the AZ mountains we hit 7,600ft. Kept telling the wife we’re higher than Mount Washington and having :goingcrazy:moments

There is no barrier between the tank and boiler. I read about that possibility (I think MA was 30 minute fire wall requirement), but it wouldn't really be possible to put one up without replumbing the circulation loops since they occupy nearly all of the space between the boiler and the tank.

It's insane out there. We're like "Wow this is tall" and out west is like "Hold my beer"

I did the opposite too, went to White Sands heading back eastward. Left and immediately climbed like 4500 feet into Alamogordo, and there was a ski slope. Such a cool place to explore. The downside is that "Oh, yeah, we drove 10 hours to be here for the weekend" is normal out there. I'm in RI, anything more than 30 minutes needs an overnight bag.

Cheers thanks. That day is open at the moment!

Appreciate it! We’ve got a TikTok and Facebook page too. All about the same stuff post-wise.
Send boiler pics? I did quite a few installs over the last few years.
It is :anonymous: and for a while when searching for our socials, that’s the only suggestions coming up
