As most of us know, when we got our 3rd generation Tacoma's, we noticed this sticker on the passenger window that says "Toyota Security" or something like that. Upon reading the manual, it says that is standard and automatically engages when the engine is turned off and the doors are locked. If someone opens the doors after that, the security system will set off the horn blaring on and off, as security systems did in the olden days, and annoyed everyone within earshot! Well, twice now, in the past two weeks, all of a sudden in the early morning hours, my truck's horn is set off, blaring and waking everyone up in the neighborhood, for no apparent reason. I tried looking in the settings after it happened the first time, but couldn't find anything in there. It happened again just this morning, and before I take it in to my local mechanic, I have to think there must be a way somewhere, to change or disable this "feature". I would at the very least, like to disable it from accessing the horn, although I do like it flashing the headlights, etc, if someone does try to break into the vehicle. Anyway, I need my friend's help here in this group! Thanks!

I migh be wrong but you can disable panic mode in techstream but i think its just for the button on your key I dont think it actually disables the theft deterrent system itself.

Just an anecdote for ya, I'm not saying your truck isnt faulty or anything but not too long ago my boss was showing me security footage from his house. Some dude just walked up his driveway, tripped all the floodlights, opened the door to his rav4 (for ref he has the keyless entry thingybob.) He went through his rig for a bit, didnt take anything and tried to get in his other car, couldnt, and proceeded to leave.

It was so weird, he didnt know him and his neighbors had no footage of him in their driveways.

Im sure your confident that nobody is getting inyour truck but maybe somebody is?

Both times, I happened to be awake and went out there within seconds, but there was nobody around. The doors were locked, but they lock automatically anyway. No damage to the truck either time, and nothing was taken. I am sure nobody tried to get into it, as I also have multiple cameras on the front and all around the house, and nobody was there or around my truck, which of course, is why it is weird that the dang alarm system just "went off"!

if you have added any aftermarket electrical items or done any modifications that involve anything electrical, I would look at those first.

Maybe a door switch is going bad. Thus making your truck "think" a door is open. Could you or your cat be sitting on the key fob?

This happened on my 2003 pathfinder years ago. Never found out what the issue was and it went away on it's own. On my 2020 Tacoma I always turn off the fob as I arm the vehicle when walking away. Don't know if that may help as it only stops the fob from trying to communicate with your truck. It will also help prevent relay attacks as well.

I actually stopped by my local mechanic shop yesterday morning, and asked him about it. He suggested the same thing, even though I am sure the doors and tailgate were all closed tightly. I got home yesterday, and was inside the house, when the dang horn started going off again! I quickly hit the red "Hold" button on my key fob, which turned it off. I then went out and opened and closed all the doors, along with the tailgate. Of course they all seemed closed properly. I am now thinking it is the fact that for some reason, my key fob "hold" button may have been hit when I sat down since it was in my pocket. But that is where it has always been kept and I have sat down a time or two, over the past almost 6 years since I had the truck and this has never happened! So I am dumbfounded as to what to do, other than unplugging the horn temporarily since I rarely use the horn anyway. But I really don't want to do that, but it bugs the heck out of me, that Toyota puts this dang alarm thing on there, but doesn't seem to give one any way to disable it. If someone actually KNOWS if Techstream provides a way to do something about this, without me actually taking it into either my mechanic or the dealer, then it would be most appreciated!

I would try first as someone said to shut the remote off. There could be a slight issue with the panic button on the remote , remember they are just plastic with a small circuit board . In all my experience in general , most of the times things like this end up being the the simplest stuff, and the remote would fall into that category

Have you tried just disconnecting the battery (holding both cables together for maybe 20 min) to reset the ecu.

I forgot to mention that I always turn my remote off, because I don't want thieves to steal the code! Yeah, totally defeats the original purpose of having keyless entry, but at least I feel more comfortable! So far, no horn blaring today. Stay tuned...

I had this same problem with the key fob in my pocket setting off the alarm. What I did was I opened up the key fob like one might do to change the battery. I razored off the nub on the back side of the alarm button that pushes the internal button for the alarm. I have an SR5 with a conventional key type of fob. I don't know if the push to start fob has a razor solution.

I've already been doing this for years since I learned that thieves can steal the signal from the fob. I've gotten used to it now, but after getting used to the keyless entry, and just being able to walk up to the truck, grab the handle and get in, well, I did get used to that and ended up liking it. So now, I have to take the fob out, click a button to turn it back on, and then get in the truck. Doesn't sound like much, and it really isn't now that I've gotten used to it, but it annoys me that because of thieves, I had to do this. It would be just better to go back to a regular key, as replacing keys is much cheaper than replacing key fobs!

Or just double check your insurance policy, turn the fob on, and go enjoying life without wasting time and energy on the small stuff,,, it’ll all be over before you know it.
