Third Break Light Bulb Change

Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was anyway to remove the lens of the 3rd break light and change the bulbs. Is it even possible or do you need to just change the whole assembly?

 

Which model?
I’m pretty sure the OR, and other models (Limited, Pro) has a sealed LED unit. Or maybe it's the quad cab that has the sealed unit and the access cab that doesn't?

 

Its a 2016 tacoma limited, so its a double cab. I've looked everywhere and have found nothing, so I just assumed you have to replace the whole assembly.

 

Sorry, I am not much help, I am pretty sure you do. What's wrong with it? Have you checked to see if it has had the TSB or recall done on the assembly? It is a common leak point. On the double cab, the whole assembly must come out from the inside,,, thus dropping or pulling down the headliner inside the cab.

 

No nothing wrong so far. Just wondering if i could replace the bulbs just so their brighter.

 

The stock unit on a double cab is an LED, there is no “bulb” to replace. You’d have to change out the entire piece. Better off leaving it alone.

The access cable 3rd gen has the same lamp assembly from the 2nd gen and that one uses 3 168/194 bulbs.

OP, this is a great product, while not as cheap as a bulb switch. It is also plug-n-play.
The $100 would beat the hell out of messing with dropping the headliner too.
I bought it primarily to increase reverse light output while backing down my narrow, semi steep driveway.
The brake light is great too, and I feel better having that lower, so I am not blinding people behind me with obnoxious overly bright (and high mounted) brake lights.
