Bit of a random post here, but I’ve been getting into making my 3rd gen “fast” recently. Before anyone criticizes me on this, yes I know there are better cars for this blah blah blah. All I’ve done so far is 5.29s, James T fuel rails, YW tune and an HPS intake tube, with a procharger In my future ideas. However that’s not what this is about, this is just about the 3rd gen transmission and what I can do to improve it. The number one thing I’ve noticed is how horribly slow the shifts are, they easily take a second off of 0-60 times. I am looking for solid, hard shifts I can feel. My question is, has anyone experimented with the upgraded nomad valve body from Wholesale Automatic Trans in Australia, or any other kind of mods to tighten up the shifts at all. IPT said they can rework my factory converter as well, and I was wondering if anyone did something with this. Those are my main two ideas for making this transmission better along with tuning, but Yotawerx refuses to work with me on transmission tuning, I’m assuming for liability reasons. Any help here is appreciated

Honestly, buy a sports car or a manual stick Taco. Since you're probably going to partially get into the emissions part of the ECM along with increasing the pressure on the plates, no one wants to deal with it or potential issues for a few bucks.

I know you don't want to hear it but once you beef one part up, the next part down the line is the next fail point and so on.

The delay is to avoid shock loading the drive train, even a lot of the modern big ol' 3500 smokers [diesels] are set up to limit engine HP/torque output in lower gears to avoid driveline breakage.

This project is worth all of that effort to me. I’ve had fast BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches, and I honestly just want to try something different. I knew id get people telling me exactly this, and while i appreciate the input i know what im getting myself into here. I’m already $17,000 into this truck and I’m not planning on stopping any time soon. This project is driven by passion and nothing else lol

I’m thinking this may be the only option. I’m ordering a factory converter to send to IPT and probably doing the same for the valve body after. I’m happy to be the first to do all this, but was hoping for some help along the way.

haven’t looked into stroking the motor at all, that’s pretty much 100% unavailable for now and I’m assuming it will be for at least 10 years haha. The only internals I’ve looked into are the MonkeyWrenchRacing cams/valve springs and their 10.0:1 compression pistons. Cams are probably going to be the first mod after I get the trans sorted out, I’m very interested to see if I can get this thing in the 6 second 0-60 range NA on 35s.

I will honestly say good luck with it. So many newer rides are getting incredibly hard to build up engine and transmission wise due to electronics and Toyota doesn't really play very nice with their coding.

Don't come back here and say you bought a Raptor Ranger a year from now........................;)

lol, no Ranger raptors for this guy. I’m a die hard 3rd gen lover, I think I may be the only person on earth who appreciates the drivetrain in this truck. I’m excited to be one of the first to really dig into performance for this truck
