Thanks. I'll have to check. One of those days, I wish I had done it myself, so I would have known where it may be. I doubt they replaced anything in terms of gaskets. It could be possible if it were not done correctly, and I have no idea if they pressurized the EVAP system. It could explain why my pump was super noisy as air was being let in. They even said the noise was concerning, so we will have to investigate whether they did the leak test. Would the EVAP pump / filter and all that go out as early as 90k? Truck still has 89k and change and was running fine on the stock pump.

do you have a link to that procedure or know where? I should have a copy of a service manual somewhere.

I'm banking there is a leak somewhere. I clear the code and it comes back the next time it drives which if it happens at shutdown would make sense. i don't know if its causing the mpg drop but if its trying to pump more gas then maybe. def get a gas smell at times more so than I assume.

If this happened right after the pump install, then something was left loose, or not as tight as it should. I have made the mistake of not tightening down the fuel tank ring or have pinched the seal there . Every time I have done fuel pump in my tacoma the lock ring seems tight then I give it another turn to make sure. That plastic on plastic likes to stick and bind.

@nudavinci64 The evap leak has nothing to do with the MPG loss. It may be the ECU calibrating to high flow or pressure. If your pump is flowing more than your return can handle it will raise the pressure some.

    Update:
It has been a while since the first VVT gear replacement with the Kelford cams. I had to warranty the VVT gears. The issue came back not long after that. I got factory VVT gear and tensioners. All day monday and so far for today the rattle at cold start is gone. So with my issue, I would not recommend aftermarket VVT gears to any of you with modified internals. They may work just fine for an all stock application, but be aware of my poor experience with them.
I glad I could be the guinea pig for everyone. LOL

I'm curious too. How do you like the cams and do you sweat that mod at all when it comes to smog checks? I know it's not visual, etc.

To be in my 20's again....

On the other hand, I used lavender scented baby oil for the smoke and my engine bay smells oh so good!

Ok I’ll have to get it fixed to see. It’s been a few thousand miles and mpg has declined since. Maybe it’s having issues calibrating but no idea.

I am liking them. the power band feels broader. There is one issue I need to look at, but I've been wanting to fix the rattle. I think it is inherent to the tacoma and not the cams. Under 2.5rpms the truck feel restricted and gut less to the point it feels like it will barely accelerate. Until 2.5k rpms then it feel like it should. Towing, hauling loads, tight mountain roads are the major situations that notice it.

Ha ha… I was thinking the same thing (coming on this thread) and saying the same thing. Haven’t been here in a while, poke my head in every now and then to like a post. Been looking at the 4th gens, will probably end up with one at some point give or take. It’ll be interesting to see what performance mods come out for it. ;)

I'm really curious as to what kind of power the 2.4 can handle. And if the hybrid or non hybrid is the better route to start modifying.

I will be. Love the current truck but I’m still too much of a Toyota fan boy to not have one.

Yeah I haven’t gone too too far down that rabbit hole yet. Something tells me the hybrid version won’t be as modifiable, but that’s just a hunch
