I have a 2008 2.7 MT that is stuck in 4Low. We’ve changed the 4wd switch and both actuators and it still not come out. Does any one have any clue what could be be happening?

I had the same problem with my 2007 2.7 MT. It finally came out when I went over a big bump. I was told by a Toyota guy that you have to have the parking brake set to properly come out of 4WD. I have not tested this theory, since I have not dared to put my truck into 4WD since :)

Not true at least on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens.

Speed under 3 mph and clutch fully depressed (M/T) or transmission in Neutral (A/T) are the conditions for shifting into and out of 4L.
We've seen several people have the issue of the Transfer Case physically getting stuck in 4L, in at least one case it was a cracked low range hub. The other couple cases I'm aware of the root cause was undetermined.

Most 4wd issues with the electronic systems are from not being used and/or the actuator vent hoses cracking/coming off and water getting into the actuators.

Getting out of 4 lo can be a PITA with all 4X4's. Has been an issue forever. Putting the truck in reverse and backing up 10-15 feet then pulling forward while in 4 lo will often release the binding. I've had to do this little dance multiple times in the past with several 4X4 vehicles.

It also helps to go from 4lo to 4hi instead of trying to go straight from 4lo to 2hi. After you get out of low range you can shift back to 2wd after you get underway

I had awful H2 to H4 to L4 experiences when I inherited my Taco. I started the use of H4 and then L4 regularly and now transitions effortlessly with no beeping objections. Use it or lose it, 10 miles per week! H4 while driving under 40 mph. L4 rom a complete stop, clutch pedal to floor. Life is good.

Yea I use mine alot because I have the 2Low module and it works almost every time with no fuss, occasionally I get the beeper because I was either rolling too fast or I didn't have the clutch all the way down but just click the switch back and try again and it works fine.

It was kinda clunky when it was new but the more I used it the smoother it got.

Glad to know that the parking brake thing wasn't true. It sounded like bunk to me. It was told to me by the service guy (not a mechanic) at a Toyota dealership!

The last bit when I said I didn't dare use 4WD, I meant 4WL - I use 4WD Hi all the time, and it works fine.

Yeah I get a little nervous when I go into 4L. Sometimes it takes a minute to transition out. Maybe you need a new actuator? I got an Aisin for my 09 and it wasn't hard to swap.

I haven't needed 4L, but I use 4H often in the winter. For the last couple of years, on a straight stretch of residential asphalt road, I've stopped and put it in 4L and noticed that the warmer the temperature and vehicle are, the easier it is to get in and out of 4L. I drive a short distance, stop, and return it to 2H. Since I've been doing this, getting it in and out of 4L has also gotten easier. I'm not expecting to use 4L, but one never knows.
I also noticed the last time I greased the U-joints that I should replace the hose on the actuator. Does anyone know the size?
