What is the difference between G17 and the G47? I know Gen 5 different from Gen 4 because of internal parts. But what did they upgraded for the CPB was not spelled out.

The G47 is the new version of the G17.

The G47 is sized the same as the G17, with the some changes. The frame has a shortened dust cover, the slide has a short cover on the bottom side at the muzzle end (to make up for the shortened dust cover), and the internal parts are the same as the G19.

This model was built to maintain parts compatibility between the two guns for the convenience of police departments (such as Border Patrol).

 

This configuration is the G49. Not commercially available - yet.

The G47 slide will allow this combo to be built.

 

So with a G45 already, the main advantage would be a slightly longer barrel? The dust cover I assume is for environmental purposes.

Yes. The barrel/slide length is the only practical difference.

The frame length under the slide for the G45 and G47 are the same dimensions (shorter than the G17). The "dust cover" is part of the frame. The extension on the underside of the G47 slide (at the muzzle) is to keep the environment out of the gun - which is what I assume you meant.

I have no idea what the extension on the slide is called. Next week, I am taking the Glock Armorer's course - I'll ask if there is a specific name for that area of the slide.

 

Border Patrol ... desert ... yeah it is what I was asking.

OK. I will accept the shorter length for the 17-rd magazine of the G45. G43x will be for carrying concealed or in occupied territory (10 rd).

You may know this, but in case you don't - the 17-rd magazine will fit and function in the G19 frame. It just sticks out a little. There was company making a sleeve to cover the exposed part of the magazine, but I don't remember who. Not necessary to fire, just to clean up the look.

Oh, and Glock makes a 33 round magazine also....

 

33-rd ... my wallet cannot handle the sinkhole that opens up ...
