What about the same idea but with a hinged table off the side? Would store the same but offer a more versatile work space

A rolling welding table would definitely be easier to do (if you don't require a welder and bottle on it).

My personal suggestion would be half "welding table top" paired with a solid, hardened piece of steel next to it both on the same plane.

I've done my own gunsmithing work (very basic stuff) but have known professionals that have often used a solid surface for things. Adds versatility.

Then you can do away with the "hinged top" idea and focus more on the style cabinet you'll have underneath.

You can use something like this for your "welding top" side - https://fireballtool.com/products/24x12-fixture-plate?variant=40495116222508

That's an interesting idea. As long as the cart is heavy enough, it shouldn't tip over.

I'm starting to lean away from the table-on-cart idea, to just a table on wheels (like yours). I like the idea of a 1/2 solid table top - more to think about.

Just make sure to ask yourself what you really need, hence my half solid table suggestion.

The fixture tables I've got are great, and I use the hell out of them as much as I can. I find myself telling people "I regret not getting them sooner"

    20241103_125912.jpg

I'll do welding, fitting up, measuring, etc all on my table.

I can't see myself doing any gunsmithing work on it though unless I'm welding on a flash hider or something. I don't even have my vise on my fixture table so if you're throwing a rifle up on a barrel vise or something, it's better to have something dedicated for that sort of work.

Although I'm sure you'll find multiple uses for one if you did buy one.

    How can I fix this?

So my 4yo does Kart. Last weekend he destroyed the exhaust pipe. Someone crashed into the back of him pretty hard. It broke one of the bolts that held the exhaust on. He kept racing and it was a cascading problem where one by one all the bolts broke until the entire exhaust system came loose.

He drove several laps with the thing dragging. Functionally it's fine but it looks like ass. I want to clean it up so it doesn't look so bad.

What's the best way to get this cleaned up? Belt sander?

I have that surface conditioner. I had planned to use it for rust removal for my trailer project.

It really takes a ton of force, and works best on large flat surfaces. The curves there will make it difficult to use.

I would probably just use a DA with an assortment of discs, possibly follow up with a sand blaster for a finish

I have the same hood along with Miller DE and Speedglas 9900XX. But the most I used when I was in the shop was actually a Jackson, because of it's lighter and smaller.

I did a lot of onsite fab and repair in chemical plants, most of the fitting and welding are out of position Tig, that extra once weights a lot at the end of 12hr shift.

The newer helmet head gears from Miller, Lincoln and Speedglas do make it more comfortable.

Just a heads up on the CK Worldwide MT200. Bad ass square wave inverter machine. My favorite part is the fan on demand. The Everlast’s fan was always on. Good stuff. And the 33fitty helmet is bad to the bone. Nice to be back in a Lincoln hood ready for trabajando!

I also decided to get back into making custom furniture. What’s not to like, I get to use a chainsaw to mill, Festool circular system, Big Milwaukee router to mill to final specs, and then TIG the legs. Love it.

I gave away the bench that was in the loft to some outstanding friends. That was an oak piece. The one above and this new one that will take place of the oak are Eucalyptus. Beautiful grain and freakishly heavy for its size. I also had enough remnants in the garage for the legs. Good stuff. Can’t wait to get started.

If you know someone who does metal work, they can cut out the bent area, and weld on a patch with a curve?? That area is critical in the expansion phase.

Not sure how much metal(assume 30X stainless) has been ground off, it's not worth it to keep sanding and polishing it.

It's an exhaust pipe, if it blows, it goes.

I'd wrap it and tie it with safety wire or stainless zip ties, call it a day.

I think you're right. I've been wanting a roller for a long time. Maybe I should finally get one.

This was my first roller. Different sizes to get to the eventual shape. I kept it for some reminiscing. Good times them days and they came out nicely shaped!

Maybe I should have been clearer.

I am looking for the table to weld on - guns or whatever. I have other benches for doing the actual gunsmiting work.

The primary use of the table is for gunsmithing "welding" (as opposed to general fab work). I will use the table for non-gun welding as well.

Half fixture, half solid would be my suggestion!

There are times I wish I had a solid top for certain things
