This 100% !! have you ever drained oil for any other car, a mower, or some other part of the truck in to that pan Like say A differential or a Transfer case? if so how do you know the metallic looking flakes are from the trucks engine. Transfer cases and Differentials can have this and some is normal for them. its also very hard to thoughly clean the pans totally between uses that's why you take a sample from the flow out of the engine's oil pan not drain pan or the filter.

The pan I used has only been used for engine oil on this truck. I try to wipe it out afterwards too

Also honestly in all the years doing oil changes over 40 plus years , I can’t remember the last time I even looked at my oil after a change so if there was an issue I never knew about it .Especially when dealing with 80’s cars . They were notorious for wiping out cam shafts and lifters /and clogged oil pump screens. Not to mention the not so stellar reliability in those days on suspension components.

I've seen flakes at 30K oil change in the pan and the filter.
I'm past 80k now. It's normal for the engine produced in US of A.
I have Japan built Rav4 and Prius. Did not see any flakes.

What are you using for oil? Go up a grade in same brand. E.g 0w-20 > 5w-30. Assess for 2 oil changes.

Or go from oil x to oil y, same grade. Assess after two oil changes. E.g. Costco 0w-20 to Mobil 1 0w-20.

Good thing you changed your oil. This happened once on a 2016 I used to maintain and then it stopped afterwards. Maybe try switching oil brands? I use pennzoil.

Im still here, just a lot of comments to get around to. I use Mobil 1 0w20. I could try 5w30 next oil change and see what happens. Other than checking again in 5k and sending another sample to blackstone, I don’t think there’s much more I can do at this point. I’ll be sure to update if anything goes wrong with the engine

Think twice about changing the recommended oil weight. There are real engineering reasons that it's running 0w20. Its not the same old engine running thin oil just for milage.

I expected some bashing, no big deal. I know I’ve been over the top with this truck so far but I just want to make sure it’s well taken care of and lasts. It’s good to hear that you think this is a normal amount of shavings. As mentioned before, I’ll be sure to update if anything goes wrong with the truck. Thankfully I’m still under warranty for 35k miles

Never, in all my days, regardless of mileage, manufacturer or country of origin, have I seen used oil from any motorcycle, ATV, SXS, airplane, boat, automobile or lawn mower, that didn't contain glitter.

Show me the engine that's impervious to wear, and I'll show you a day on TW that doesn't feel like a Friday...

Curious if there was any follow up from the OP and if he got his Blackstone test results back.

I just changed my oil and sent a sample of mine in about 2 weeks ago. I just got mine back today. Oil change was done around 35,000 miles. Last sample was sent at about 4,500 miles. Seems like from this my engine is doing great.
