I cant get more than 4 days out of my yeti camping in the summer. But then again, who has time to camp for more than 4 days anyway. I think an igloo would turn the ice to water in 2 days camping in the desert.

    minor tweaks
I thought I'd share the tent setup I'm using. I needed a tent that would work with the truck (and topper) have enough room to step into standing up. The SUV tents seemed to fit the bill, for the price I found it to be pretty nice. What stood out for me was being able to have the tailgate right there as a table, platform or in an extreme weather a cooking surface and being able to fully stand up while using it. It's not a fast tent to setup but it's self supporting and can be done w/o too much trouble by one person. The vehicle isn't required to be attached for the tent to work.

It took me about 10min to setup (one person) the one time I've used it so far. It's got a decent footprint and there's a good amount of room to store stuff out of the way below the tailgate but still inside the tent.

I'm more about comfort then roughing it, the heater made a 38 degree night really comfortable.

I liked the easy access to the stuff that's stored in the bed and having access to the bed's DC power outlets made it feel more like a camper and less like a tent. IRT to a midsized truck, the tent will allow someone utilize the short bed and the tailgate to get normal sized sleeping area if they want to sleep in back of the truck.

I'm using an air mattress here but I may switch over to a cot.

Been wanting Starlink for a while, but the space and power requirements were a challenge.

As soon as Starlink mini was announced it was an instant buy for me. Now to decide if it's worth hard mounting or just keep it 100% mobile.

Well, I tried lightweight aluminum crampons and wore them out in two seasons. Guess it’s back to steel. Steel is real.

So, are the aluminum crampons for short term, backup, use only?

Not really. They are light and like any ultralight gear their lifespan is way shorter because of the material. If your gonna be getting after it the weight of steel is worth the longevity of steel.

    It depends on your use.

Aluminum seems fine for pure snow travel, and they can be very light. Some people just walk on steep or slippery snow patches in the winter. And so they work for that.

I found what I suspected when I bought them—they are not great for true ice, or rock, or dirt, or mixes of other things. They are soft, their points don’t bite well, and they’re fragile relative to steel. And that can be dangerous if you suddenly find yourself on high-angle water ice covered by a thin layer of new snowdrift.

I spent last weekend on my now-trashed-set on mixed stuff (rock, ice, sand) because it dumped 5” of powder and made our climbing approach more involved.

Meanwhile, here in California I'll be climbing in a t-shirt this weekend. Shitty state, but you can't beat the fucking weather or the climbing. Lol

Heh our scout troop is doing a bunkhouse for our weekend campout/thanksgiving. Which is fine by me, I hate putting away wet gear anyway.
