New tonthis thread. My wife and I are considering a move to Wisconsin. I've visited for training several times (mercury marine) and enjoyed the place. We're currently considering Merrill, wasau area

Welcome! This is a group of pretty good fellas. It's a very active thread full of nature pictures and bad financial decisions. The farther north you go the nicer Wisconsin is :D

Welcome! @Taco-Grinder works for that establishment. Can't go wrong with either of those places in my opinion. Lots of access to fun, lakes and beautiful country

Gotta be careful, though - I hear the bartender tends to give out heavy pours
You're really tempting me to do the same, Jason...

Give in to your intrusive thoughts.... It's the size you should have had from the start!

    Hello and welcome!

    I'm from Merrill, originally.
If you have any questions I might be able help.
If not, there's some pretty informative members floating around this thread.

We are mostly looking for good places to work. And if there are any parts of town we should avoid buying a house, be it for natural reasons or because of the people

    Merrill is small. (10k pop?)
Great for outdoor activities, not great for any city life, shopping or variety.
We always went to Wausau for that. (a 20 min drive south).
Plenty of people that live in Merrill who work in Wausau.

Merrill's west side has been known as a loosely quoted 'rougher' part but it's Merrill. Things don't typically get rough there.

I'm not as familiar with Wausau.
It's pretty spread out. The east side of Wausau is a nicer area to live, or even Schofield. They're all connected.
Regardless, in either city, rural areas aren't far in any direction.

I like that Merrill is smaller. That's part of the appeal. I'm used to the small town vibe. Having a bigger town so near would be new to me. And I suppose a 20 minute commute wouldn't be the end of the world

There's certainly times that I miss it.
Like on Fridays. Every bar or establishment with a kitchen is frying up fish. lol
Tough to find a good fish fry in Eau Claire.
