I'm not sure how to tell the difference. I'll look on the inside I'll have to pull back the carpet.

gotta take a look and see how deep it appears to be. you might be able to feel it through the carpet.
there's just a thin piece of plywood that runs the length of that span.
My plan (when i can devote some time to the thing) is to basically put in an internal brace - like a piece of steel and tie it into the steel tube that runs down each side of the top.

    that would be great

Not sure what's up with their website. Hope they are still around and producing the replacement bar.

Took my flippac though Utah, it didn't pretty good I need to mount it a little more securely as it moved around a bit. Trying to put the rain fly on was a major hassle and ended up taking 3 of us. Lol.

The easiest way I have found to put the rain fly on is to attach it to the legs while the lid is still closed, and then open it so that the fly pulls itself over the tent. Just be mindful that the little pole that holds those vents open doesn't catch on the tailgate or handle for the back hatch or you'll get the lid halfway open and it abruptly stops.

Next I tie the back down so that it covers all the tent material and comes over the fiberglass (just like in your photo) and the final step is to pull the front of the fly over the corners, and attach the poles to the tabs on the fender to hold the lid down. I've found that if I don't tie the back first, it can be really difficult to get it tied down if the lid is already secured to the fenders.

    Hope that all makes sense.

i'll take a pic of mine...i'm using like campershell C-clamps...there's were holes in the rail of my flippac when i got it, so i used most of the existing ones to run a beefy bolt through it and clamp to the bed rail...I think it still moves a little bit, but it's pretty snug overall.

i'm using these clamps, but just the bottom piece due to the offset and how wide the flippac rail is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3757702859...H7NY82VOZCXj67HwUDtaPU/n8AI=|tkp:BFBMmomS-OBk

I'd definitely call 12 deg north before ordering and confirm if they actually have it ready to ship, or if they just drop ship through sway away. Hope you can find it.

    @moto.mike

I shot 12th degree a quick note on their website chat this morning about your sway away bar, since I was looking on their site. They finally just responded back to me and said they typically keep a few in stock, but do sometimes drop ship from Sway-away. so you might be in luck there if you cant get a hold of sway away directly. I'd still call and make they sure have it on the shelf given sway away's status is unknown.

I also tried calling sway away to see if they are still in business. i heard some fun music for 3 minutes and was directed to voicemail. i left one and am waiting for a return call.

    haven't tried email.

edit: Sway away called me back already. they are still in business and making the torsion bar. I didnt get his name but the guy I spoke to said they are a week or two behind in production, but it's absolutely still available. As for the website, they are doing an update that has taken longer than expected but it should be back up "soon"

He also mentioned that there may be a free shipping discount that they were offering via orders through the website, but he wasn't sure if that expired. You can call them and place an order over the phone maybe ask for the free ship since their site is down.

I've done my part. The rest is on you big fella

my plan is to try and get in touch with swayaway and see if i can get it straight from the source...next would be 12deg....not looking for forking over 900 bucks. ooof...

edit: just saw they got back to you...i just sent 'em an email. Glad to hear there is still support for the flippac.

happy to help. i've learned that phone calls and e-mails go a long way when it comes to vendors. should be less than $500 for the part and a couple of beers for your friends to help you out. just make sure they are relatively sober before the install. $900 maybe if pay someone. you need one person to stand on the roof of your truck and hold the lid perfectly upright. two or three other people to help lift the fucker to that position from the sides and tailgate since the torsion bar is broken, one person to hammer the bar through. that was me, the supervisor I was also trying to make sure my friends didn't do anything that might brake fingers.

Just make sure you have enough friends when you do it. its not that big of deal. Just a big awkward piece of fiber glass that you need to hold in a specific position to hit the bar through.

Gotcha. TBH I'd save your money. Just do the torsion bar.

I understand. That's what we tried to do but the fly kept falling off to one side. Lol. I lm gonna try a few more dry runs . I may try lossly tying it to the back to help preventing it from sliding to the side.

Thanks for the link. I have 2 that are bolted down like your describing and I think that's how I'm going to do the rest. My other ones clamp to the side of the rail and just allow way to much play.

IMG_7473.jpg Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well,

I just came across this forum while doing research on flippacs. I am currently looking to add one to my Tacoma. On my hunt I came across one of interest but it does have a glaring issue that needs repairs- it is one of the hinges (see picture). I was wondering if someone with more experience could help me determine the difficulty of the needed repair. I do have experience with metal fab/ fiber glass repair and DIY so I am confident in my abilities- but in this flippac’s case I am unsure if the risk of repair compared to the asking price.

Greatly appreciated, have a good day!

That sucks. I guess it depends on how much they want for it. The inner metal pice probably needs to be replaced too.

Appreciate the input. Right now the price is a little too high and they are firm. Should that change I’ll go take a look in person to get a better idea.
