I'd be a lot more concerned if the transmission fluid was that color at just 15k miles.

Looks okay. I think the worst is when it's black or muddy brown. Change it at your buddy's 8000km later and see if it's similar. Then post the update here :D

Oil color doesn’t matter as much as some think.

All that matters is, it was changed.

Couple highlights from the manual I thought would be worth pointing out. The 0w8 specification comes purely from a fuel economy standpoint, you're not going to nuke your ringlands into orbit with 0w16, Toyota even recommends it for extreme driving conditions.. All in that oil isn't as dark as the black hole flor-ida crawled out of.

Curious to see your blackstone results though. I have seen values pushing 5% fuel on these newer hybrids. Tell your mom to hammer it every now and then..

I guess the sarcasm in Flori-duh's post didn't come through?

OP should use 30W10 oil, then he'd owe mom a new truck.

I change oil on daughter’s 24 Corolla with 0/16. I used Mobil1 the first time, at 900 miles, and Valvoline the second, at 8K. The first time, no one, not even the dealer had 0/8 on hand; they said to use 0/16. I’ll be sticking with that. Oil I changed did not have that reddish look but I never put it in a clear bottle to look through. It could be the additive package that Amsoil uses; could not be.

Maybe the piston rings needed to seat and allowed some blow by past the piston head into the oil sump?

Generally I like when my oil changes show a reddish tint. To me, it means I got the good out of that batch of oil without going over.
I don't like it when I drain oil and it is still golden'ish, means it still had plenty of good use left to it, I don't like when it is black, means I should have changed sooner...

His mom fried the piston rings because the double shot of nitrous blew the welds on her intake manifold. :cookiemonster:
