Gotcha, I guess I need to read up on the trim levels more, looks like the only 2 trims that have 4WD standard is the TRD PRO and TRD Trail Special Edition for 2023 anyway??

Just trying to wrap my head around lots of people lifting and modifying RWD trucks to look like 4WD trucks... Nothing against it...

I did however test drive a SR5 4WD before driving my SR5 RWD, and thought over some really rough roads it rode a lot smother, wondered what it would take to get that from mine?...

TRD Intake. I needed a new air filter and at first I just bought an OEM filter and the flow accelerator as that piece (with the TRD filter I elected not to use) is considered the heart of any performance gain on the system. Boredom got the best of me and I ordered the rest of the pieces.

It's well made, it goes together quite well (though I think the torque values on the clamps are dubious, I stopped before my wrench clicked as I was worried I was going to crack something), but any claims of performance gains are far fetched IMHO, at least based on my test drive. I was a bit disappointed on the sound. I didn't expect this to be like the AEM intake on my old Accord, but I think I expected something based on some of the reviews I've read and videos I've seen but it sounds nearly the same as the stock intake to my ears.

It does look really cool, however. Maybe the oiled TRD filter would do something but I'm in the oil-free camp and the OEM fit without drama, so the OEM it will be. Disregard the dirty bay, I did a 30 second wipedown prior to photos.

A couple beginner mods, working my way into slowly.
2019 TRD OR with OTT tune here, I very rarely post on TW but I have excelled as a world class lurker. I really dig TW and this 3rd Gen forum and have learned so much from you all and thanks to you I have spent a good bit of $$$ on Mods over the years, but love my QS sled. I feel compelled to chime in and share my experience and "so far" solution to the Brake Over Malfunction issue you all may have heard about. I was experiencing this issue for some months and on at least a weekly basis, sometimes more. Out of the blue my truck would go into limp mode with the B.O.M. error message along with a Christmas tree of other lights on the dash. It was super sketchy because some of the roads I drive here are high speed and lack much if any of a shoulder to bale out of traffic. When this occurred, to get back on the road I found that if I d/c the positive battery terminal, wait for a few mins, reconnect and that would temporarily clear the issue. No shop could seem to ID the issue, including my local Toyota stealership. They all told me that until I can limp the truck in while the issue was occurring they can't help me, which seemed crazy to me. The Toyota stealership did offer to tow the truck at their cost if it happened within their general area. However, I live over 50 miles from there and I'm rarely in that area now that I've retired, so that wasn't super helpful. The error finally occurred in town close to a local shop (Ultimate Motors), so I was able to hobble her in. Ultimate Motors has been great to us over the years and did most all the major work on my old 2001 Tundra, 3 timing belts and water pumps, etc. I gave that Tundra to a family member that was in need in Vegas , she had 396k miles. She was a great truck ran like a top and I often times miss that 4.7 liter V8. Anyhoo after a few days Ultimate calls me to say they believe they IDed the issue as a failed "engine mounted vacuum pump". The part was on back order with Toyota but after a few weeks of grinding we were able to find one at a Toyota joint up in the L.A area, (Longo Toyota). Ultimate sent their guy up there the next morning to get the part. It's been a 2 or 3 months now with no issues. Hopefully this helps anyone else out there dealing with this aggravating issue.

Speaking of my jacked up splash shield bolts and nuts, three of the frame nuts were totally destroyed by cross threaded bolts, one of the dealership "mechanics" probably just zipped them in with the impact. Had to cut them off the frame, replaced with these captive U nuts:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S7VSSDM?ie=UTF8

    and these bolts:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU9HSRT?ie=UTF8

Works well and with application of anti-seize at every oil change they are holding up well.

I had the same issue when I upgraded to OEM LED Headlights and my Fogs. Fixed it with Diodes.

This is what I'd like to install. It really breaks up the darkness of the engine bay.

I agree. As long as you go into it with the mindset it's a dress-up kit and nothing else, you'll be happy, IMHO.

I hear you. About every couple weeks for me as well. Although here in the PNW during winter months, dodging the rain is at times longer than a couple weeks.

Yeah, I've seen videos and read on here about the value of having one.

It's an added cost incurred by owner for just that purpose! (Others may have a different mindset)

I'm saving for the DiamondBack SE Tonneau cover...that joker is up to/almost $2K!!!

But like I said, I'm saving for it.

Looks very nice indeed! Probably gonna get some Attica headlamps. Researching those as this is written.

It just felt like the 4wd absorbed/took the raised thick steel plates and bad pothole patch jobs where they are digging in the roads much better then my rwd did, if the suspensions are the same, then it must just be the extra weight of the 4wd driveline over the lighter rwd and or the difference in tires... My daughter (23) has back problems from having twin 11" rods and 18 screws in her back and she even said the same thing, she was on both test drives...

Not much really. The craftsmanship is top notch and when installed correctly it’s pretty much water tight. With me the whole issue is space, specifically bed space. My Taco is the first truck I’ve owned that had anything besides an 8’ bed. I underestimated how limited the space is especially with a bed cover. In a pinch one or both panels can be removed but you still have to deal with the center section. I really like my truck but have been considering going back to a full size truck and sell the DB before parting with my Taco. I’ve got a project truck I’m working on and if I can get it running and dependable then that changes everything.

Very pleased with mine. Good workmanship/construction, secure, waterproof, cleans up easily. No issues after 10 months (and 4 seasons). Highly recommended if you can swing the price.
