    Tacoma :spy:

Just goes into how often you're towing. If you're towing it 100 miles once per year, I would just use the Tacoma or a rental like @TreeFortRichard pointed out. The cost of owning it will be FAR more than the "expensive" rental costs for a uhaul that you don't care about.

If you're towing it 2-3 times per year, 6500 wet, I'd still consider the tacoma.

If it's a constant use, yeah, the 3.5 (or even the 2.7...They tow about 7.5k) would be my go to, the HDs are nice and burly but the cost of ownership vs the standard duty is not worth it, in my opinion.

    20$/day plus gas.

If you go 2-3 times per year, for 5 days each....
Your rental cost is about 500$/year, no worrying about insurance, registration, maintenance.
Just to point out - a lot of credit card rental coverage WILL NOT cover trucks, moving trucks, or uhauls in general.

Depending on how often you're using that trailer, I'd consider that as a viable option....

Are you ditching the Tacoma? If so, 3.5 V6 F150.

If you're keeping the Tacoma too, then the biggest/highest towing capacity you can get, since it'll just be for towing, might as well max that out. But if you're using as a DD, I'd rather punch myself in the nads every time I get into a 3.5 F150 than deal with an F350 as a DD.

Any thoughts on the Titan? I don't have any, but just to throw it out there. Can tow 9k+

I hated driving a 3/4 ton for work for the little bit I did, 1/2 ton is so much more comfortable.

    I've put decent miles on 5.0 f150, 3.5 f150, 5.3 gm 1500, 6.0 gm 2500, 7.3 f250, 6.4 ram 2500 and that is the order that I would rank them in.

7.3 towed the best but rides like poop. I loved the coyote truck I had for a while and I towed 7-8k without much trouble, better than the 5.3 I have now. Never towed much with the 3.5. All the 6.4s we have seem to spend a lot more time in the shop so if it were me I would shy away from the 5.7 as well.

I'm leaning towards the 3.5 ecoboost I think. I watched a bunch of videos and it pulls like a freight train

If this is becoming a daily driver of any sort, you're going to hate the HD for that. I think you'll be way happier with the 3.5. Heck, check out the 2.7 and see if it fits your needs - up to about 7.5k, I've heard nothing but good about the 2.7, whereas the early 3.5s had some growing pains. But at that point, with 7.5k limits, you're talking into mid size anyway - the ranger can tow (in some configuration) 7.5k.

The 3.5 eb is a beast, I never hauled anything but ass with mine or towed but there was always power I think was rated at 400hp and 500 ft lb of torque. Mine had the 9.75 rear with 3.73 final ratio, or how ever you say that. With Max tow axle, the one that breaks the axle bolts. Yes there is a recall on that Max Tow 3/4 float axle, and the fix doesn't seem to work. I know in 23 the 9.75 3.73 could be had with out the max tow, I can't recall how Ford is packaging those rears in 24 and 25. Now I have a 2.7eb 9.75 rear and 3.73 gears. I'd recommend the non problematic 9.75 rear if you can find it. 3.55 is pretty good and usually what is on the FX4 pkg.

Edit 3.5 eb has a Ford Performance tune that bumps up the hp and tq.

My 2020 tacoma doesn't even have 20k miles on it. If I had to daily drive a stick shift dually diesel, I think I'd be ok lol

Gen 1 of the 3.5 is a no go. Late second gen or 3rd gen had all the bugs worked out.

I really like the idea of the 6.8 F250 but they're surprisingly difficult to find used.

I have the 6' bed on my tacoma, it's as long as a half ton already. Just a little bit narrower

Look at you, being on topic and all.

What's the thing, nobody ever went broke on 20% gains, but they did waiting for more?
Blah blah me and donuts too. Get your donuts and get out.

Well not all of us have work trucks, you lucky SOB... :boink:

I'm nearing 80k on my 2020, almost 50k of that was in the first year or two. Last year I barely topped 10k miles. This year I might top 11.

You'll be good with the 3.5. Just stay relatively up on the oil changes with turbos, and you'll be fine. If I was buying a half ton today I would be in a 3.5 or 2.7 F150, since the 3.3 is gone.
