    ahhahahhahha...

for the record the secret: my boss called me to check a person's references. the guy put my name down. now I know he is going to get then promotion, and I can't say anything. just in case he fails some other criteria down the line. everyone is rooting for this person, and the other choice is no bueno for our team.

That's not at all what I was anticipating as a secret.

It is exciting to know your personal opinion matters in this decision.

I have a secret too. One of our techs just tested and qualified for a promotion. It will come with a few dollars being thrown his way.

What the company doesn't know is that he's been interviewing for a different company. It's a mobile position with a ton of travel, which means a huge bump in compensation. I'm pretty sure he's gotten the offer, but as our company is a valued customer of this one, they're timing it so as to not burn bridges from the poach.

I'm not going to rat. I really hate losing this tech, but his talents are wasted here. Dude has a head for mechanics, not science, and he really should be pursuing the path that he has a natural aptitude for.

    Rock,

    I admire your thought process.

With all the nonsense that happens around work, it's good that you evaluate in such a way that is given with foresight & congratulation.

Whatever. It’s an equally lame secret.

A good coworker secret is when your boss tells you they slept with everyone except you. Even the IT guy. EVERYONE.

Promotions? Reference checks? Put the lube down, friends, because it’s gonna be that kinda water cooler day.

    :hattip:

I'm a bit of a strange cat. :cookiemonster: I enjoy leadership but don't want direct reports. I love to mentor but hate the paperwork side of managing. This new position where I'm at is set up like a dream as its the best of all worlds.

I watch over the quality department but all techs report to the supervisor; supervisor and I report to the same boss. So I get the teaching and troubleshooting bit, he gets to do the delegation and documentation. I'm the fun dad. In turn it is teaching me all of the soft skills that I wish my bosses had, which is also cool.

Become drinking buddies with HR. They know the good stuff. Most of them are filthy buggers to boot. If you know the rules you know how to hide it better.

    More like a "Unicorn." lol

It really is challenging to deal with some personalities.

Right now, I'm dealing with a 65 year old Site Lead who has been in the same position since 2007.

He's been the single point failure/sole survivor...and has seen many people come and go.

I'm kinda wondering why people have departed...but I don't wanna guess as to why.

Back to the personality...when I reach that age, lord willing...I am taking into account the interactions displayed when closer to retirement.

There is too much to unravel so I will keep this short.

I'm having to articulate myself more than usual...and normally, I don't notice it.

But, it's an easy job that requires restraint from the unusual/challenging peer personality interactions.

no updates. i'm keeping my mouth shut. there is a slight chance he doesnt get it due to HR issues. hate to get word out, and get his hopes up needlessly.

Moved from a big town to a small town a few years ago, and I am learning very quickly to keep my yapper shut because people love to spread.
