Toyota Tacoma has out sold Ford, Chevy & Nissan combined for decades while maintaining the best quality record for a reason. I've owned 5 Toyotas over the past 25 years and not one ever went into the shop for warranty repair or something breaking. Their quality speaks for itself. I have no doubt this Gen4 will be as good a truck as the others even if it may be the 1st to go into the shop. Time will tell but most with Toyota history are likely not worried.

I'm showing that with the other manufacturers, owners have to join a class-action suit. There are several, including transmissions suits. You don't find them with Toyota.

RAV4 battery terminal repairs came from a class action suit, as did some airbag repairs :notsure:

What about 1 million units recalled for a faulty air bag that could randomly explode?

Or the people who have been waiting to get their white paint fixed that is failing on Toyota's that are only a few years old.

It appeared to me they already started with the 2024s. We were shopping for a long time. Multiple dealers told us there were manufacturing holds for a few reasons. When I picked up mine in July same day off the car carrier truck it was in a big wave of pickups being released to dealers and the VIN was not in transmission TSB.

I'm not an attorney, but I work for several as an investigator. I'm in court a lot.

As it says in the article, Syed claims the defect exposes him and other owners to “an increased risk of severe injury or death.” That's a bogus claim–anyone will recognize that as bullshit–and since Toyota is replacing problematic transmissions, the case has no merit. It'll be deemed a frivolous suit.

Yeah, I’m not expecting much here either. Toyota intentionally using faulty parts is a bold claim that they’ll have a lot of trouble proving. Besides, it’s not like there isn’t a remedy here already: Toyota already has a procedure for the problem and every truck is still under warranty, so anybody who suffers from it for the near to medium term is going to get a solution. Reaching for anything besides that is a stretch given that everybody takes a risk any time they drive their car anywhere and nobody successfully sued a car company for anything beyond a fix for a widespread problem.

If anything, we might get a warranty extension out of this.

But you highlighted how other manufactures have class actions lawsuits, making it seem like Toyota doesn't.

Like the tundra when the motors blowing up, having a vehicle randomly stop accelerating or leaving someone stranded can be a pretty big issue given the right situation.

There's a difference between valid suits and this action. The (one) litigant claims that Toyota knew this transmission had issues in 2016. Good luck with that.

I would say rent 24 for a day, drive it around and see how it feels. Any new gen of first 2 years have issues.

3rd gen is not much different from 2nd gen, the gear shifts will feel bit out of place but its literally the same truck as before, just "newer" engine 3.5 V6. It feels like a truck, and it is a truck. Simple, straight to point and time tested.

We all know that laws and government are forcing auto makers to make cars less durable, more plastic, stupid emission laws, also the materials are getting expensive..

Automakers didnt just want to go full plastic & cheap parts, they had to because less and less materials are available.

Yes. I'm not aware of any statutes that forced Toyota to or not to make their choice of tailored blanks, aluminum and other materials where they used to go a cheaper and inferior route. Nissan offering a lower fuel economy, and lower torque engine in same model year competition seems proof Toyota was more responding to forces of the marketplace than governance.

I just returned an AVIS rental car to O'hare and saw a 4th gen Tacoma there as a rental return. That would be a great way to get an extended test drive. I'm doing that next time I'm there.

I did quite a bit of browsing USED 2023 Tacoma Pro's and Offroads on cars.com yesterday while the Dallas Cowboys were getting their ass kicked. There are some pretty nice low mileage trucks on the market. But they are expensive. If someone doesn't want a 4th gen, there are good used options still out there.
