^"Indie" as in independent shop. Not dealer or Canadian Tire or Midas advertising $39.99 oil changes.

Never heard of it. What do they charge for an oil change if they have a mechanic doing it? Must be a small shop. When I was a teen I worked at a small 2 bay auto shop/gas station. It had only 1 mechanic. But even he didn't do oil changes or tire work. The gas pumpers did it when they weren't on the gas pump.

I didn’t own a torque wrench until I started rebuilding dirt bike top ends. I still only use it for specific things like my truck’s suspension.

Different environment now with hiring help. But getting back to the original topic, OP was asking about skid plates. There are other reasons for removing skid plates besides oil changes - transmission flush, idler pulley replacement, crank seal replacement, etc., etc.
