Favorite Whiskey?

Well I was hoping this would be similar to MWND, so far it’s not even close…. I don’t hate it, but it’s got that TX bourbon harshness and funk on the nose…. It’s only been poured for a few mins so maybe it’ll improve but so far…. i wouldn’t recommend dropping $150 on it….

 

I don't care for MWND and love this stuff.

Bottle kill…

 

Picked this up last month figured I'd give it a try. Same store had 10 bottles on the shelf earlier so I wanted to know if I liked it and should buy a back up. Not sure yet.

 

as a neck pour -

sniff test - sweetness and caramel.

taste - some cinammon and baking spice. i feel theres an apple/cherry note in there somewhere. no harsh finish.

Looking forward for it to open up more.

Id say its comparable to weller antique

Im going to do a blind against weller to see if i can truly differentiate.

 

for a $40 bottle, id say im happy with it so far.

again, looking forward to how it opens up after a few weeks

 

lol I bought two when I saw it assuming I would like it. Hahahaha. Haven’t had time to open one but I’ve heard it is indeed good.

I really like it. For the $$ it's well ahead of many bourbon's in its class. Very fruity.

Dettling is in my top favorite bourbons out there. Each of his barrels have a unique taste because he fiddles with them during during each aging taste. I absolutely love it. Whenever he moves from his front yard Alabama distillery to a larger one, I hope he's able to keep that unique flavor.

 

Its official the Shank-Berger 50/50 blend is a thing! Really brings out the oak from both of then. A bit of pepper mid palate from the Shenks, and a smooth caramel, vanilla from the Bomberger.

 

Felt like a Buffalo Trace kind of night.

That’s about how i make my OFs - as well as orange bitters and orange peel. But that apple pie…now that’s how to top it off!!!!
