60+ year old thread.

Damn, that’s music to my ears. Brings back memories of muscle car days when cars were cars and guys were guys and we were a little crazy. And Friday night grudge matches at Fremont drag strip when we’d uncap our headers and flames would shoot out and the roar was deafening.
Quick story, use to cruise the strip Friday and Saturday nights and some nights there as this gorgeous girl cruising in a bad ass corvette. She had a metal plate in her back window that boldly stated - If You Can Beat Me, You Can (blank) Me. I never raced her and didn’t know anyone who did but that was my dream and fantasy to race her and win. I would have been happy just to be seen with her or just talk to her.

, urban legend me thinks, in Allentown Pa. she drove a 409, some also say a vette, I never saw either car, or her, on the circuit.
Often wondered if "a little old lady from Pasadena has a brand new bright red super stock dodge parked in her rickety old garage", love that song!

 

I Drag raced at Fremont Dragstrip from 1976 until I entered the US Marine corps in 1981 . I also cruised Fremont blvd

 

Small world. I was born and raised in Oakland, after college I moved to Fremont in 1974 where I lived for 25 years. In the late 60’s and early 70’s use the cruise the San Leandro strip. Use to go to the Fremont drags and raced grudge matches there up to about 1973.

May have been urban legend but I did see the purported young woman in her black vet a couple times but never actually saw the sign in the rear window. But a guy can have his fantasy’s

 

We dragged State Street in SLC. Never saw the black Vette lady (or the white t-bird/American Graffiti) But a bunch of guys were riding with me one night and a car full of girls pulled up alongside and one of them leaned out, looking at the guy (Rick) in the back seat and yelled, "Hey, ya wanna f***?"
Both cars pulled over in a parking lot and everyone got out, and the girl and Rick left in the girl's car for a while... one thing led to another, and they are still married to this day.

 

Why does the side walk just stop there?? Good job to the ladies for fixing the mess.

Ours is the only sidewalk on this side of the street except for three other widely separated sections. Other side is the same. Technically, the part they destroyed is "city easement", and why the developer only did walks on rando houses is a mystery. All the houses were built within the same year, decades ago.

 

Coming from AZ, either the east border or even San Luis, Sonora is the common way. I use the west border as I come from San Diego.

Nice job by the wives. You really should have both wives send an email to the city person responsible for overseeing the person/department that writes up the proposals for the city. Not only should the work area be put back to original shape and at grade, but the area should be overseeded.
