For 35's 2nd gen auto 4.88 is recommended. I have the same truck as you and I went with 4.88. Most 3rd gens go with 5.29. 2nd gens with manual trans seem to go 4.56.
Make sure to get a rear locker as well.

I’m really stuck between regear and supercharging…feel that the regear should be first before supercharging. What’s everybody’s input?

I was in the same boat years ago. I had a 4 cyl tj. did not want to re gear, spent a lot of time and money making up a turbo set up, worked great, but the higher octane fuel among other things were the draw back.

with that experience I'd say defiantly re gear. I just did my re gear and even though i miscalculated my ratio I'm glad I did the re gear.

Both is ideal of course, but if you're choosing between the two, regear is the better way to go in my personal experience.

    I'm torn between 35's or 315's in C or E rated.
I currently have 295/70r17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's in E rated. They are 70lbs each and pure beef, but one of the more aggressive "ATs" on the market.

I am upgrading to 35s and am interested in 35x11.5r17 Falken AT4's that come in C rated. I have a short commute of about 5 miles and my truck is a weekend warrior used for camping and some trails in Northern California which can have some nasty shale and rocky terrain. I also go up to Tahoe in the dead of winter so Severe Snow service is also a must. 35x11.5 only come in C rated. I'm regeared to 5.29s and have a CVC tune and all the trimming and cmc needed for 35s.

Is there anyone who can give suggestions and or advice on going C or E rated? E rated would mean a 315/70r17 or 35x12.5r17s. I'd like to save on getting too much poke with 12.5 wides but am again uncertain on getting C's or E's?

Checkout Scorched fabrication on instagram. It's a guy who makes high clearance rear fender lines similar to C4's fronts offered.

I’d think you’ll be good with the C rated Falkens. They have a 3 ply sidewall and imo are the perfect tire for Tacomas. A friend of mine had the at3’s on his 1st gen in a c rated 285/70/17 and they worked well for him running them in some pretty gnarly mountain backroads. Some very snow covered.

I regeared about 2 months ago on my 3rd gen. I have owned my truck since August 2018 and initially stuck with the CVC tune which of course helped tremendously. But let me tell you, I live in Northern California with all the hills and mountains and on my first trip after getting 5.29s it was like a completely different truck. That tinge of stress in the back of your mind as your engine revs and downshifts and gear hunts on the freeway is nearly non-existent after the regear. Yes these trucks are still dogs but the power band is much more available now and my MPG in town went up from 13.8 mpg to 15.6mpg in a couple weeks. I have heavy ass Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's in 295/70r17 E's weighing in at 71lbs each. I traveled back from Sonora Pass to the Bay area loaded with 250lbs of camping gear and a passenger and still averaged 19.5mpg on the return trip!

Get the regear, if you can swing it, get polished gears installed to reduce any break-in periods too.

I current went from open country mt at 70lbs each to c load 35x1250/17 at 60lb AT3. Man, I wish I ran these from the beginning! Nimble and light on highways but hold its own in other elements.

Last place I've been rubbing is in upper fender well near battery on driver side and windshield wiper fluid tank on passenger. I hit it some with a sledgehammer previously but was still rubbing with full lock and tire fully stuffed. I took tires off and beat the hell out of it. I took windshield wiper tank out and battery out as to not damage them during the abuse. I was previously rubbing hard in the picture below and now no rubbing.

Pulled the trigger on 35's! Falken AT4W 35x11.5r17 C Loads on Relation Race Wheel RR7-H -13 Offsets. I drove from America's tire straight to my go-to Bay Area Toyota Specialist Milo at Milogen Fabrications in Milipitas, CA to get my fender's trimmed and C4 liners installed. Picking up tomorrow afternoon, will update with after pics! It already rode nicer than my E-rated Mickey Thompson Baja Boss At's in 295/70r17 E's.

Looks sweet. I’d be interested in more pics and info on necessary trimming and cutting. I am considering these as well as the KO3 in a 315/75/16 for my next tires.

Update to 35's. Fenders cut, bumper tube cut back, and rear bedside quarter panel bracket added for rigidity. Did a trip to Hollister SVRA and only slightly rubbed!
