Day 65: I will start by saying FUCK TOYOTA! Email from Toyota HQ requesting another payoff figure. I sent it in and asked for the status of the buy out offer. Also told that after the offer is accepted it takes an additional 3 weeks to finish process at dealership! Explained that it has been a royal pain in the ass not having transportation, bumming rides, wife having to cancel work appointments, making dr appointments around friends schedules.. etc. And having bought 11 new Toyotas in 20 years as they pointed out to me praising me for my loyalty I would think they would actually make an attempt to sew this one up knowing the truck will not be repaired in the next month. Instead the lady on the email, who I had spoken with a few weeks ago, decided to call the dealership and ask if I was offered a loaner and this is her response:

"Received thank you. I have submitted your offer to our headquarters and once I get that back, I will email that to you.
You can get a loaner vehicle from Stephen Wade Toyota. I just got off the phone with them and they did offer you that at the beginning which you declined."

That's total bullshit and will be calling her first thing in the morning. This is turning into some bullshit that I do not need and the dealership has still not contacted me after I went in on the 17th of October. I was told that there 1 point of contact and he is on vacation... well left messages and no response. I am not sure actually how to respond to this. The dealership could give 2 shits about this one obviously.

    Any thoughts?

No reason to, will not get done any faster.
They already told him he falls within the lemon law guidelines & they’re buying it back.
Just a few more steps and processes at this point.
They just need their attorneys to sign off on full reimbursement amount which will happen.
Then the 3rd party transfer company Sedwick will contact him and make arrangements to meet him at the dealership where they will hand him a check, & finalize paperwork.
    Just another 30 days…
But if they are offering him a free rental, he should take them up on it….
Milk it for what it’s worth!

don’t loses your cool now, home stretch…
You will also read in the fine print.
They didn’t want you to respond to that email with the payoff and all the paperwork..
within the email they give you a specific email address to send it to…
Possibly that’s what happened and they never received it.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
They shoulda nipped it in the bud. Now they have an irate former customer who will be telling this story to anyone who cares to listen. Dumb. Goodwill burdened by bureaucracy is not really effective in my opinion.

His job is to sell trucks. When it broke, Toyota Corp should have stepped in immediately and cut you a check for the amount you paid. Your friend had zero to do with that.

But what I did expect from him was to make good on his word that when the 30 days are up they would be able to work with Toyota to get me into something new and Toyota paying that one off and just do a VIN swap on the loan if I went into another vehicle. But 30 days came and went and now 60+ days and not only did it not happen but he won't even return my call. So him or the dealership have done nothing for me when there is obviously a procedure in place for this situation. If he kept his word I would not be in the limbo I am in waiting to find out if and when Toyota is going to make me an offer.

People in this day and age don’t keep their word. That’s why lawyers are required. Stop being naive.

Unfortunately, it seems character and integrity are values from a time that's passed. If you get screwed, it's your fault for being a sucker.

I didn't know there was anyone left who believes anything a car salesman says. Hint: they only pretend to be your friend so they can make money off you. Car sales script 101, find something you can claim to have in common with the mark so you can make a fast friendship.

They cant do what theyre telling you they will do....
You would be on the hook to finance both vehicles at the same time....
He should have never suggested that, the reason he's avoiding...

Ive given you solid step by step protocols, procedures, etc...
They only do it one way...

Funny you mention the seats. Picked up a buddy the other evening and the first thing out of his mouth was how much more comfortable the seats are than my 21 Taco's were.

Obviously seats will always be subjective. The new Frontier seats are just too narrow. I have a 2019 Pro4X in the family, and those seats are great:

The new ones are much more narrow, and the stupid plastic piece causes issues:

I think the seats in my base 2G Tacoma are pretty good, I don't usually drive it for a long period of time. The bolstering is pretty good, I'm not that wide by any means which probably helps. The position could use improvement and Toyota has with the 4G.

I have a 2001 PreRunner 2.7L 4 with 510,000km/316,907mi that I bought new. It's run like a top with no more than regular maintenance and upkeep. I just started looking for a new Tacoma after being out of the market for some 23 years! Like the OP here, I have always had Toyotas over the years (Corolla's and currently a 2014 Venza) with not a lick of a problem.

This is a real eye opener of a thread and I am really second guessing the new crop of 4 cyl turbo's and Toyota Corporate. I have been following the Tundra debacle in the news as well. Not good. I won't buy domestic as I keep my vehicles for years and need reliability/dependability. I'm a bit bummed. :pout: BTW, dealerships around me are exactly the same as the OP's experience. They just suck. I think I will just start looking used Tacoma V6.

I hope the OP sorts this out and gets proper compensation from Toyota. What a nightmare experience to have to go through.
