Is the seal the right direction? It's pretty easy to put em in backwards.... Ask me how I know

Put the new seal in backwards? I did that with a fork seal once.

That's a great question. I guess we'll find out when I pull it out to pop in the new one. That would explain the horrible leak. :notsure:

So I think the problem with the countershaft seal was that I lubed the seal before installing it. That was a dumb move. Next one, I will clean inside the seat with contact cleaner and go for a tight, dry fit.

so this is atm speculation on the new drz4sm a few people are wondering if the reason suzuki is talking up the 38hp is because its 38hp to the wheel instead of how the old drz400sm would be at 34ish to the wheel? no idea yet if thats truly the case but the bike does have better torque numbers in the mid 20s over the last gen having it at 17ish. so no idea only way to find out is wait for one to show up and ride one lol or wait for a dyno video on the old youtubes!

also in bolt news.. im going to probably have to find a different person to powdercoat my wheels.. i found a local guy that friends have used in the past and he has done great so i dropped my truck wheels off to get coated and they are now currently 2 weeks past when they were suppose to be done and have had very little actual contact with him... ive tried email and phone calls to figure out what is going on but have got nothing...

That shouldn't have caused any issue. Maybe it got nicked on the shaft?

No, the oil was pumping out of the outside circumference of the seal. Seal was oriented correctly to the correct depth (flush with case). I'll inspect the seat better with a flashlight to make sure the seat isn't nicked.

Checking in. It's been a minute.

@gixxerphil, man so glad to see you getting better.
Hiking the AT end to end is probably gonna have to come off the bucket list at this stage of life...but this may go on it!very cool.

Better to ride a slow bike fast....that looks like a blast, and those roads!

Ya'll talking about pillion time. My girlfreind came with me to storage this weekend. Climbed up on my old 'cruiser' Guzzi and asked why I'm not taking her out...Looks like I know now what to get her for Christmas. If she has an 'outfit' to ride in, she'll go. Even said she'd be happy to do an overnight. Amazing the compliance an engagement ring can generate.

Everybody here deals with buying parts. To those of us of a certain vintage: remember when sourcing parts meant one of three things? A) parts shop with your fingers crossed. if nothing then B) junkyard. if nothing then C) entusiast swap meet. That was it. Maybe one more: the classifieds of a magazine. Times were tough.

Last week I scored OEM NOS crash bars and 'spoilers' for a 45 year old moto that only 2000 ever came to North America. I peeled the packaging off and they saw the light of day for the first time since it was packed in 1978! Dirt cheap too! People try to find just those plastic spoilers when doing a refurbishment of these bikes and guys want 100$ on Ebay for one that is dinged up and will need a paint job. This entire bar with spoinlers cost 100.

you kids these days have no idea how good you have it. lol

On top of that. I've been getting out almost every day on my bike. This is insane weather for early November. I'll take it. This Saturday at the last vintage gathering there were few bikes. This little honey is worth sharing.

thats how it was with my 91 pickup lol there was a time period it was hard to get parts for them and thats when i owned mine. after i sold the thing then these trucks boomed in popularity and so much is now available for them... plus the price sky rocketed! bought mine for 2500 bucks and now for the same truck in the same shape mine was in is hitting 10-11k....

I for one am excited to ride one, hopefully next season, and see how it handles. I don’t really get all the hate, they could have not updated it, stoked they did. The only thing I’m upset about is I now have a glimmer of hope they’ll do the same to the DR650 and I’ll have to buy one of each.

Wonder if it could have something to do with moto licensing restrictions in other markets?

the issues is the stuff they didnt do that people wanted for years.. now im still excited to see one in person and go ride one and make my own decision on it! but if the bike has 38 to the crank? wellll then thats going to be very gutless at that weight and just overall not fun at all... i hope its 38 to the wheels with the 27ftlbs of torque because that would be a complete blast! but wait and see ya know!

that would be nice to see the dr650 updated what would you want updated on it?
that is possible because of eu restrictions or something maybe?

Such a blast! Got officially bumped up to B group on the R6 and had a blast in there.

I did call it a bit early and skipped the last two sessions of Sunday, as there were quite a few crashes in B. Two bikes collided at one point and one of them caught fire for a bit.

Most things I’d want updated we’d all just end up updating ourselves again anyway, i.e. suspension, sprockets, seats, Lighting, etc.

EFI would be enough for me to go look at it.

Gearing spread update or another gear wouldn’t hurt on the 650 more so than on the 400 since peeps take it on the highway and long distance more. I just see it as a big street legal dirt bike so don’t really care about that as much.

First. Happy veterans Day thank you to all who have fought for this country!

    Second.......Guys..... Super sad day.

I had to put the wind break / quilted liner in my jacket for a mid day ride cus it was a little chilly - low to mid 60s, even had to turn my grip heaters on the lowest level for a little bit.

Ran errands and regrouped today, stuff has calmed down since the fires in my area midweek. Got a chance to take the stupid amazing lil mini Crawler to the crawl spot down the street from my place. I told myself I wouldn't do more than the needed durability upgrades (links and driveshafts).... But oopsie new tires n wheels and some brass portal covers showed up. I'm into it for ~200$ and it's well worth it, it crawled seriously quite well out of the box, especially with some free mods. But now. WOW is seriously blows my mind how good this thing crawls and stuff it can do even tho it's size. I have driven it for hours now at the beach and it just keeps on going battery life is insane, stock electronics are dang good.

If you want a lil mini Crawler you can throw in your moto top box. This is it! Redcat Ascent 18

(It also color matches my tenere quite well hahah)
