I have a 1999, 4-cylinder, Tacoma with 270k miles on it that unfortunately needs a new engine or a head replacement. The truck otherwise is in good mechanical/electrical condition but the exterior is a bit banged up.

Is there any market in a truck like this where I could get more than the $1,000 to retire it?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If you part it out. Maybe.

Scrap yard wont give $1,000. At least not the ones here in Tennessee.

That’s good to know, CA has a program where they’ll give you $1,000 to retire your car. So I’m thinking that might be the best thing to do.

6lug or 5 lug? 4x4? If the frame is in good shape and everything else is in good working order, I would imagine you could get more than $1000 for it, especially if it's a 6lug 4x4. If it's a 5lug then probably not.

    Doesn't need to be here.

    FB marketplace

    Craigs List

Both much better for a transaction like this that is likely to be more successful locally.

Yeah I used to have a lot of people approach me to buy it. But with the check engine light on, it’ll need some money put into it before it passes smog.

If it's 4wd id post it on marketplace for 3k. If its rust free someone with some know-how could spend 1500 and get it going and get a solid truck for cheap.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Who said it needs a head or motor? What are the codes it’s throwing? Symptoms?
