:thumbsup:Same. And do. The pistol is for fighting your way to the rifle
I guess the modern day equivalent would be a 9mm semi auto and a PCC.

I have a Henry .22 Goldenboy that I won at a gun raffle. And, this was my first rifle - a 1960s vintage Sears .22cal lever action that I got for my 12th birthday.

My other lever action is an 1876 .577/.450 Enfield Mark II Martin-Henry Long Lever. My son and I each got one a few years ago from IMA when they had them by the pallet-load still coated in dust and crud after years of storage on open pallets. We lived close to the IMA store so we were able to sort through and pick out rifles that looked functional. They all had some level of wood rot and rust. We cleaned them up - didn't turn out too badly but I haven't put a round through it. Fun project though on a rifle with a lot of history.

Ammo - that's a 30-06 M1 Garand M2 Ball cartridge next to it for size comparison.

.45 Colt has become one of my favorite rounds. Got three ways to shoot it now. Henry Big Boy rifle, S&W M25-5 and Uberti 1873 SAA.45 Colts.jpg

Well, Arkansas changed muzzle loading deer season to alternate weapon season which allows rifles with straight wall cases. Rarely does one come across such an opportunity for a new rifle. Quite a few years back I sold my collection of Marlin rifles, only keeping my 30-30 that I got when I was 16. Well, I guess this is why they say never sell a gun, because I'd already have what I need.

Oh well, decisions, decisions. So, .38-55, .405, and .45-90 are what I am considering. Not an old original, but a recent made, in the last 30 years or so. It does not have to be a lever, but in those calibers most likely will. If I could find a decent priced 1885 high wall trapper in .38-55 or a Ruger No1 in 38-55 or .405, I'd go that route. Most likely though it will be a Winchester 94 sporter in .38-55, a 1886 deluxe in 45-90, or a 1895 in .405.

Anyone with experience in some or all of these? Quality of the Winchester rifles in the last 20 years or so?

Not sure where this fit into the family, late grandpa and late dad never said anything regarding it. Early 1900’s per serial #.

Looks like a fine rifle indeed. I hadn't heard of the SBL series until now. I love that they have a 336 too. Hard to beat stainless for a hunting rifle.

I almost bought one back before Remington shut down. I am kicking myself for not getting one, they were like $900 back then.

Just a flip up bed cover so far
My Marlin 30-30. Took it from my brother covered in surface rust. 4’o steel wool and cooking oil took care of that. Real straight shooter.
The other is my Winchester 9422M I inherited from my uncle. 22 Magnum. 2979 rifle but another great shooter.
