For me I just wanted something to handle small electrical fires and maybe a small spilled fuel fire.
Also excessive spending is definitely a disease one picks up when on this forum, so many thousands of dollars dumped into my truck thanks to this website.

I took the bait and finally test drove a new 24 trd or 4x4 at Right Toyota this evening. There's some refinements over the 3rd gens, but it just didn't click for me. The sales guy was surprised when I told him I preferred my 2017 over the new one.

I'm not saying the 3rd gens don't have their faults, but the new Tacoma was not the truck the media has hyped it to be imo.

They say the frame is more stable in Gen4 and the suspension better in the rear. I guess if nothing else existed I might, but design-using-90-degree-measure and the ain't-she-pretty motif of the interior is not why I buy a truck.

    Thanks for the report.

Thanks, did not know about that!

I like the ease of putting one in the cup holder, but I had an extinguisher go off in my off road truck.... not an experience one wishes to re-experience!

Annual application of Fluid Film today. Anyone in or near Dayton Ohio, lookup Backyard Yodas. He will fix you right up.

I finally got it re-seated. Had to watch a few videos to see how the three bearings wiggled around, and then figure out how to push on the boot to align the bearings.

    My write-up is here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/needle-bearing-yes-replace-it-ecgs.716338/page-24

My Renology solar panel charge controller died. But is was really old so not a heart break to replace. I really like the quality of my Victron Energy Smart Battery Protect 12/24-Volt 65 amp (Bluetooth) so I purchased the Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT Solar Charge Controller (Bluetooth) - Charge Controllers for Solar Panels - 75V, 15 amp, 12/24-Volt.

The replacement only took about an hour. What I love about the new Victron charge controller is the Bluetooth connected app on my iPhone. With my old Renology setup, I had to just trust the LED indicators lights to tell me that it was working. With the Victron app, I can see the actual power generated by my solar panel.

I keep hearing about Fluid Film but have never ran across anyone who has used it. I have lots of questions about it.
    • Is it an undercoating or a paint?
    • How long does it last?
    • Does it freeze in cold temps?
    • How long does it take to cure or dry?
I would like to do something for corrosion protection, but don't want to have to scrape every bolt head off if I need to fix something. I really would prefer to not have to re-apply every couple months as well.

    Thanks for knowledge.

I've been using mavcoat for 4 years. No rust underneath and it applies easily and relatively mess free

Coming from a frame replacement first gen I've learned my lesson and preventing rust became top priority

    • Is it an undercoating or a paint? Neither. It's a lanolin-based oil.
    • How long does it last? How long does oil last? Depends how its used.
    • Does it freeze in cold temps? No.
    • How long does it take to cure or dry? It doesn't.
Best advice is to just get a can and try it out.

I've been using Wool Wax, which is slightly thicker than Fluid Film, for 4 years.
At first I had a shop apply it, he not only sprayed the frame but removed all the body plugs to spray inside the rockers and door panels.
For 3 years I had him respray it once per year, then he went out of business. So I bought this kit along with 4 Rhino Ramps and just respray my truck in my driveway, a little pancake compressor is all you need for air supply.
It's very easy to do. Just put down a drop cloth, wear glasses and clothes you don't care about, and spray away.

    • Is it an undercoating or a paint? It is an oil
    • How long does it last? Roughly 1 year with going through car washes
    • Does it freeze in cold temps? No, I live in Minnesota and as it gets colder it just gets a thicker consistency
    • How long does it take to cure or dry? Never dries, so you can still work on your truck no problem other than your hands will get greasy.

I paid $200. My guy drops the spare & removes the front splash guards. Takes approx 2 hours. He’s pretty particular about pulling body plugs and filling rockers, ETC.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
You could just do this: Worked like a champ. Got a little overspray spatter on my face, otherwise, peeled it off and threw it away.
