I’m one for following the rules about not collecting that stuff, but we did find some nice materials that were not artifacts. That way others who go there can see them also.

Serpentine is cool- we also found some jadeite in the coastal mountains west of Los Banos - Del Puerto is nice canyon drive in the area with a bunch of serpentine and beautiful radiolarian chert formations- have you been there? It’s just off the 5.

sorry, I didn’t make the connection between “jewlery grade” and artifacts. There’s plenty jasper up the there. :)

We met a guide level rockhound (chemist by trade) gentleman at the gate who's been going up to clear creek since he was kid. Knew the place inside and out. He gave us a copy of a very detailed hand written map of the entire management area. Lists all the principle mines by name and places with interesting mineral deposits. My wife acted like she had just met Elvis Presley ….and all I wanted to do was bag San Benito Mtn and hit Idria.

Long story short, we were a bit overwhelmed up there and didn’t get much done. Hope to get back up there this Friday.

oh, and we haven’t been to the places you mentioned - thanks for tips, on our to do list.

Cruised down Old State Highway from Alta Sierra to Wofford Heights. OK, not REALLY 4x4, but there was snow and some mud. Luna got dirty.

Twist to 4H, stop, NEUTRAL, shift to 4LO. I came to complete stop, I even shifted into reverse, but 4LO kept flashing at me. Shows how much use I actually get out of the truck in 2 years in SoCal. . .

A bunch of us, I was the only Tacoma again, did the FSR to Skwellepil forest service campground on Chehalis Lake. The area that I live in doesn't have desert, grasslands, rock crawling. It's mainly forested areas with forest service roads that are quite often used as logging areas, so they tend to be dusty in the summer and sloppy wet muddy and pot holed for the remainder of the year20241130_123458.jpg 20241201_121700.jpg 20241130_123529.jpg 20241130_123702.jpg 20241130_123736.jpg 20241130_133628.jpg

I'll be there for the 10th or so time in February, it will be the first time with the new Tacoma

a previous time. Giving a buddy a ride 20+ miles into the back country to retrieve anther buddies bike we hid after that guy ate it and had to transported out in a passing Unimog. We only biffed it a couple times when going through the deep soft sand. "We're going down again, Tony".....

I/we had been warned that it was going to be busy, but honestly, the only busy spots were the side adventures like the lava tubes and the Kelso Depot. On the first day we did not see 1 single vehicle on the Mojave Road.......It was a great trip, easier than expected to be honest.

    Thats great.

From what I remember the trail itself is pretty tame. We had an old suburban and a 2wd pickup handle it no problem.
But there are some fun side trips
