Where do you figure it has an 8.1?

A lot of those have an LM7 and they're often pulled for "LS swaps" along with L33's

It's the cheap version of an LS swap vs say an LS6 out of a C5Z with forged internals

My Z06 would net around 30mpg and I think I got around as much on my LS3 C6 before I sold it

 

It had it in the description, it’s at a used car lot right down the road from me. No idea if 10.5k is a good price or not for one of those. I don’t have use for it, but I just thought it was kinda funny. I guess at least this one would have the 4l80?

 

Ah it's an 8 lug I take it?

I recall some of those large SUVs being built on the 2500HD frame and you only know that if you popped the hood, or counted the lugs on the wheels

I'm not too familiar with HD variants - the 4L80 can be built to be stout AF

Yea it probably has a 14 bolt in the back too.

 

Those trucks aren't worth checking out, in general

Just stay away from GM if you've got it in your head to get an SUV

I like GM but the GM you can afford and is right for you is currently in need of its fourth 4L60E

 

I grew up GM, have owned everything from older Firebird's ('77 was my oldest) to four different generation Corvettes (C3 through C6), several Trans Am and Camaro's, and even a Silverado and Tahoe

You definitely want to be handy with a wrench though

Things like doing spark plugs on an LT suck, same with dealing with the optispark, headers on either the LS or LT, hell I even dealt with a fucked steering rack on an older Firebird

The weirdest shit will go wrong with those, and while I still call any of them reliable, they've got their quirks

And if you ever got any LS or LT equipped engine, don't go buying Pacesetter headers

Think the welders that worked at Pacesetter now work at Trailgear

 

Well, a Vortec which came on trucks, work vans, etc

 

My ex gf had a Trailblazer with the 4.2l. Nothing special I guess, but it was kinda cool to see something from the 2000s with a straight six.

 

I'm sure you can find a decent, stock condition 4R for cheap

That's right, before that "transitional" year

For Corvettes, it was '97 ('96 and earlier were iron block LT's)

For F-bodies it was like '96 or so (same as above)

And trucks it was even later than that I thought

 

As many GM vehicles as I've owned, and worked on, I've never done an LS swap on any rig I've owned
