How to remote start a 2024 Tacoma

Taking advantage of this topic, how long does the Tacoma stay on once you start it with the fob? I start it, and every time I come back, it's already turned off...

 

I wanna know why when i get in and put it in gear the motor shuts off haha.

How does that work with a manual?

 

So that when you start it remotely the next random dude that walks by your running vehicle cannot simply bust the window and drive off with it.

The whole idea behind remote start is not to help you avoid having to start it once you get in, it’s about running it so that you can have your air conditioner or your heater running before you get there. You’ll still have to restart it once you get in, but it’ll be a nice comfortable temperature for you.

 

That's a detail that was not considered. I tried to get a remote into my 21 manual. Company stated plug and play. It was not.

My current senses key fob. Press lock button on driver's door. Get in. Depress and hold brake. Press start button. (instructions appear in driver's display) Engine stays lit and normal driving modes available. Never had remote start before so I assumed this was normal O.P.

 

that's an awfully long press for the third one. is the long press actually necessary? the remote start i put in my 2016 starts on 3 short presses of the lock button, which is how i assume the stock one works too?

 

Yes, it's necessary on the 4th gen. I've tried it otherwise. It's actually kind of finicky too because if your timing on the first two clicks are off, the long press doesn't work.

 

There isn't a single factory remote start in history that has allowed that to happen. And almost every company has figured out how to let you take over the car without shutting it off. Toyota is aware shutting the engine off adds 0 extra protection from a thief but inconveniences the true owner. So much so that they've already moved away from that happening. Can an actual 24 owner confirm if it still shutdowns or not?

This is one thing that bothers me about my 3rd gen more than it should. And yes I'm aware there's aftermarket solutions available now.

 

The 2024 does not shut down. My 2020 and 2022 both shut down when you touched the door handle. The 24 unlocks when you touch the handle..get seated..there are instructions that pop up on the instrument cluster display telling you to depress the brake and press start button. Select gear and drive off.

Yes much better. The need to restart always bothered me too.

 

The app is faster than that long press, plus you get auto climate adjustment.

I was so confused the first couple times I remote started and it shut off. Then I googled it and realized my truck was telling me what to do the whole time and I just needed to read the notifications.

I just use my iPhone for remote start.

 

Same. I don’t even carry a fob, just the credit card key in my wallet.
