Hello I have a 2nd gen 5lug taco and I got it lowered yesterday with a DJM rear lowering kit. The driveshaft is too long for the lowered height and it makes it undrivable since it pushes up into both the rear axle and tranny. My last (very last) option would be to get a custom fabricated driveshaft that would support the new height of the rear, but I have no clue what my action plan should be since I feel like shortening the current driveshaft would be dangerous if done incorrectly. What would be your guy's recommendations?

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Have it shortened. A competent driveshaft shop can do it for a reasonable price. Your key words are dangerous if done incorrectly, keep that in mind.

Yep, it's my reason for not deviating from stock. You never know what other expenses lay ahead.

With only 4" of drop you shouldn't be having issues with the driveshaft length. There are plenty of us lowered that far if not further and haven't had any issue with it. Personally I'm at 4 1/2" lowered in the rear. I'd suggest hopping over to the Street Truck or 5-lug sections of the forum and post there as there will be a lot more people with experience lowering the 5-lug. Do you happen to know if the pinion correction shim was installed with the block?

Turns out it was an issue with the emergency brake partially on. Super weird but got it squared away

Let me guess, the driveshaft was hitting the right side cable where it goes through the floor and turns toward the rear of the truck? I had to clamp mine up out of the way after taking 3 days to figure out the occasional noise coming from there. Also had to turn the empty grommet upside down so it wouldn't rub.

Did you change the shocks? Mine rode horribly after the drop and I discovered that my shocks were gone. Threw a set of Monroe ones on there and it was a lot better. I upgraded to Viking adjustable shocks to match my front coil overs and it rides even better. If you're in the Socal area you can have the Monroes, they have a whole 200 miles on them.
