Installed a new shifter cable in my truck but doesn’t go in gear. Any tips on adjusting the shifter cable?

    Truck is a 08

Your saying the shifter physically won't move?

Is it connected on both ends?

    Adjustment bolt tight?

Mine is a manual or I would go look.

I was just under mine the other day.
Didn't see any adjustment. Just a long rubber boot.
Never had the console out, but I'm pretty sure there is not one there either.

You need install the shift cable in the Neutral position.
There is a line on the Neutral Safety Switch. What you have to do is MANUALLY shift the linkage to the Neutral position.
Then go inside the truck and put the shifter in Neutral. AND THEN CONNECT THE CABLE.

@Dm93 will have to get the diagram for the Neutral mark.
I am not in a place where I can get to it easily.

Shouldn't matter what position it's in when installing the cable as long as the shift lever position matches the transmission position.

I'm kind of at a loss here anyway, even if the adjustment was off it should still shift through the gears just the lever position wouldn't be correct.

I think all that holds the cable is 2 nuts where it goes through the floor.
    And 1 mounting bolt underneath.

This is where 2 people would be nice.
One to move the shifter, and one to see what is happening.

    Sounds like something came loose?

It doesn't really give much of any info on adjustment.
If mine was an auto I'd go look.

    It's in a fixed "holder".
You can't adjust it that I can see.

I already had someone look at the cable while putting the truck in gear but the shifter cable would only move.

This is literally all I can find about adjustment but it doesn't say where/what to adjust.

    Was it an OEM cable?
What led to the cable getting replaced?

    Ok. Pics incoming.
    But I see no adjument.

There is a cotter pin that holds the cable to the linkage.
Are you sure it didn't fall out and the cable come loose?

I'm not sure if the cable isn’t putting the truck in gear since mine doesn’t have the brackets yet. I’m putting the center console on a single-cab. Could probably be the reason that the cable isn’t putting the truck in gear.

I have the pin on the shifter cable but don't have the shorter shifter lever and the bracket that holds the cable in place.
